Maybe we can add Huberdeau? I think he'd be a great fit for Florida on a line with Bennett and Duclair.

From other thread:

On 32 Thoughts, Friedman:

Hanifin - let it be known he wants to return the USA. Flames never got to the stage where they offered a deal.

Lindholm - as far as he knows (as of Thursday night), they don't have an answer from him. It's Bo Horvat money, and Lindholm wants to know they'll be in a position to win.

Backlund - I think they've offered him the Captaincy, but they aren't close on contract negotiations.

Toffoli - Flames were not close on contract negotiations.

General notes:
- Flames are being very tight on term when it comes to negotiations with players. Impacted Backlund and Toffoli.
- Flames are letting Hanifin/Lindholm decisions make THE decisions
- Speculates Flames will be interested in Duclair
- Friedman weighs in: I don't think the players got along well. Factions may have been it, but believes yes - the mix in the room is wrong.
- Marek and Friedman believe things could be pretty wild heading towards the draft/at the draft given WPG, CGY, and PHI

Luostarinen. Big, engine never quits, can play C, put up 43 points. Guys love playing on a line with him. And he’s 24, an age when a lot of players pop.

Luostarinen
FLA 2023 2nd
‘B’ prospect like LHD Nause

But as Saqe points out, the issue with FLA (and with most teams who might be interested in Hanifin) is cap.

Love hearing that they are being tight on term.

Zadorov for Duclair is an interesting thought for both teams actually, but I don't see them moving Zadorov if Hanifin is on the move.

That's a good call actually, they could use a big and mean defenseman like Z.

I would rather extend Zadorov than Hanifin

I really like Luostarinen but I think this would be quality for quantity for the Flames. Maybe that's how the deal is going to end up anyway when they move Hanifin but still, I can't see many here being happy with this if it ends up happening haha.

I don’t think many are going to be happy with the return for Hanifin unless it includes a 2023 first. And I have my doubts that will happen.

I’m worried they may trade Hanifin quickly for a “win now” player to prove to Lindholm and Backlund they are trying to win and sign.

Yeah I want no part of Luostarinen, 2nd, and Nause for Hanifin.

To me that doesn't have quantity or quality.

If Provorov could get a 2023 1st then it would be a massive failure by Conroy to not be able to get it done.

This is the real risk. That they look to make a hockey trade instead of a trade for younger pieces to try to remain competitive.

Reinhart interests me.
Trade Backlund, find a way to trade Kadri and keep Lindholm.
Lindholm + Reinhart as your first 2 centres

We’re stuck with Kadri. Cut bait with everyone wanting to leave. We won nothing without them. Zero SCFs, zero WCFs.

A bit wild to me how quiet the rumor mill has been on teams involved with how many flames players. The player names are out there but usually there's a lot of talk about the specific clubs in the mix and the media goes from there to speculate on potential names. Everybody is pretty tight lipped this year considering how many calls Conroy must be making and fielding. Usually by now you'd get a "carolina and calgary have been talking on toffoli" or something vague like that at least.

Where is Sec214 when we need him! I hope you haven’t left for Nashville already without providing some nuggets?

The players’ names have only been out there for 24-48 hours. Flames management are still trying to negotiate several contracts while preparing for the draft - they only have so much bandwidth. NHL trades these days take a long time to develop - often weeks - and typically get leaked only once they’re in the later stages and agents start to get involved.

If all the speculation is true, nothing will happen until they get Lindholm sorted out. Theres probably a 'due date' on those negotiations but may not be for a bit.

Just too bad if we miss a window to add picks for what could be a once a decade draft next week.

Thing is, specific to backlund and lindholm, their names were out at the deadline. Carolina was linked to them. So I’m sure there are some conversations that have taken place previously that can be picked up on.

If managment haven’t planned for this scenario, then that reflects badly on them. Yes, the number of players that want out is staggering, but given what conroy said about not coming back with 7 pending ufas, it would behoove him to plan for this possibility.
