Never lead with your best offer? This is a message board, we're not leading with or conducting anything. W're guessing at what it would take to acquire pieces.

And even around $8.5M, would still be what amounts to an ok cap hit in 6-7 years time I would think.

Lindholm doesn't help us compete for a playoff spot, yet alone the cup. I'd hate to see Conroy turn a major asset into another untradeable contract. Especially after preaching asset management.

I think Lindholm would be a good fit for them but I don’t think they have the assets to pull it off… especially if they need to include someone as a cap dump to make it work (likely someone like Taylor Hall). It would take multiple first round picks (2024 and 2025) from them to get Lindholm (IMO) if they want to be able to offer something competitive with teams that have a first round pick in this draft.
Hard to imagine them going full rebuild despite the fact that may be what they should do… they are in a similar position to the flames in that they are losing impact players very suddenly and it can quickly change the outlook of what is a good team. It’s worse for Boston though because they aren’t going to get anything for the players that are just retiring.

Boston would have to give up both Lysell and Lohrei to get Lindy and I am not sure how they feel about that.
Getting back Taylor may help and he could certainly bounce back but I personally believe that another team will beat out any offer that Boston could muster up.

You have to wonder what kind of reputation the Flames are going to have with players around the league when for two summers in a row multiple top players are demanding trades and/or refusing to resign.
Can’t be setting a good precedent.

Same, going to be some damage control that needs to be done.
Could be a blessing in disguise though.
If the Flames stay away from big ticket free agents and everyone forces their way out then you get the chance to build from the ground up with players who want to play for the team.
Anyone who doesn't want to be there can leave, no room on the team for passengers.

This is probably a big reason why Conny said he wants to focus more on drafting, which they already should’ve been doing anyways

Backlund would likely be a better trade target. Lindholm as you stated in your post is too much for them.
Hall + 2025 2nd/1st + Lysell + Reilly is what I’d ask for. The 2nd/1st based on Boston making the conf. Finals in 2024 or 2025. Calgary takes away 9m space and frees up 4.35m for Boston to sign more people. We can afford to do this and make Reilly the 7th man or bury him for a year.
There’s also the option of flipping Ullmark/Swayman in the deal if Boston wants that alternative.

Dreger: The Canes and Jordan Staal are at a standstill.
Cue the Backlund or Lindholm trade proposals.

I dunno, just spitballing.
Buffalo is weird, they don’t have a ton I want, even Cozens.

Cozens already outscored Lindholm last year and is 6 years younger
You have the plus on the wrong side

If the Flames are successful in moving these 4 players who won’t extend a move I would love to see them make is taking Blake Wheeler off the Jets hands full cap for some futures. He might be a great fit with Huberdeau and would be another asset to flip at the deadline

I’d stay clear of him. With all the issues in the locker room in Winnipeg, last thing we need right now is someone that could bring those issues to our room.
Will be other opportunities to take on contracts for futures, if Conroy plays his cards right. Could pick up some of Huby’s buddies on the cheap. Hoffman in Montreal and Duclair in Florida might be cap casualties and have had success playing with huby in Florida. But all for taking on money if we are well compensated.

Montreal is reportedly considering buying out Hoffman. Just my speculation but maybe Toffoli for Hoffman and pick 31 in the 2023 draft?

I think the 31st pick in the draft is a pretty weak return for Toffoli alone but if we are taking on the Hoffman contract as well that is a really underwhelming return.

Better be getting the Flames first back in that deal as well. Same cost Tre paid to dump Monahan lol
