Fun fact. Scott Nichol is now the AGM and director of player development for Nashville, and is the GM of the Milwaukee Admirals.

The kid has done alright all things considered.

Lambert was Huska's AC in Kelowna, I believe the entire time Huska was HC, and took over as HC after Huska joined the Flames AHL affiliate.

Savard was part of the Bruins' Cup win in 2011. Although he only played 25 regular season games that year, the Bruins had his name put on the Cup.

I know. Effing Matt Cooke.

If he wasn't injured the Bruins would have won the cup in 16 games. They won the cup with one of the worst PPs in playoff history.

Really like the Savard hiring.

What he said about how he wants his teams to play on offence is exciting.

i suppose its a chicken and egg situation - did he leave because he wasn't getting a assistant job with Calgary and was took the NHL job offer or did he not wait for a decsion and took the job offered while he could.

depends on the timeline. Can't blame the guy for moving on if he wasn't getting the promotion here.

There's not much to add that hasn't been said. Gilbert is probably the worst coach in Flames history. The hire was wrong and then keeping him over Savard was the dumbest of many dumb things Button did to destroy Al Coates' rebuild.

Flames had a young play making centre who had chemistry with Iginla and traded him for nothing. He goes onto post 5 straight above PPG seasons while the Flames spend a decade trying to find centres to play with Iggy.

Though promising, not a lot of experience on Savard's resume.

Was it between Savard and Tanguay? Did Tanguay interview?

Maybe they had to fight it out in some sort of Thunderdome and Tanguay passed?

It is surprising with so little experience that it is Savard that gets the associate title, but maybe being a former NHLer he doesn't need to coach that much so he gets the extra incentive to bring him here.

I am not sure it means much in the day to day running of the team but a pretty fast rise for a guy who wasn't coaching at all 3 years ago.
