90 point players will be getting that easy... especially in places with state/provincial tax

Top guys will be making 15M soon

Not that it matters - but rather hilarious the Flames finished with more points than Florida, but due to being in the West instead of the East - they didn't make the playoffs while the Panthers went on their miracle run. The difference between conferences makes Tkachuk a big winner and the Flames big losers.

Rebuild from scratch.

5-year plan.

Be good in time for the new rink.

But in isolation, I don't think Conroy or any other GM could have gotten a better "win now" trade for Tkachuk.
You have to think JG leaving and the "process" (or lack thereof) leading up to it really stung Conroy.

Remember how hard he worked to get JG inked? All the time at the Gaudreau's kitchen table....

Panthers also have a ton of UFAs coming up and have traded their next 3 firsts

Weather wise he is golden, no so sure about more big runs

Some guys want more money, sure. Tkachuk signed for 9.5 for max length which looks like gran larceny for Florida right now, especially at his age.

In Florida...with no state tax, weather, ect.

He would have made 10.5 in Calgary, in fact he turned it down

You do realize you aren't helping arguments against rebuilding when you say you would take an expansion roster over the current Flames roster?

I heard Noodles say the tax situation isn't any different in Calgary vs. Florida and since he played in both markets I guess he would know.

And either way Tkachuk could've asked for 12 if he wanted.

So... anyone excited for next season?

It can't be any worse than last year, can it?

Conroy should be doing everything he can to bring in a haul of picks in this and next years draft for these guys (and others like Toffoli, Tanev and Zadorov).
I thought Lindholm indicated a willingness to re-sign. Has that changed?

This would be a valid argument if we were talking about 1990 draft rules. Things have changed where you can get a competitive roster pretty easily as an expansion team.

If hanifin, Backlund and potentially Lindholm aren't interested in staying at reasonable prices then burn it to the ground.

Scorched earth baby.

We'll actually be good when we open the new building.

Disappointed in Backlund but oh well.

Again what does this have to say about the Flames roster if you feel you can assemble a better one from from unprotected castoffs? There's absolutely nothing sexy about the Kraken and nothing indicating they are on the verge of anything special but people here would take that over the current Flames roster and then argue against rebuilding? If the Flames aren't on the verge of success why continue down the road of mediocrity? Why not rebuild?
