The normal path for someone to become an NHL head coach is to become an AC in the NHL first, or at least have a very long track record in the minors. If Love felt snubbed by the Flames, that's his problem. I don't think the Flames made a bad decision by not hiring him straight to the NHL as a HC. Coach of the Year winners in the NHL have no connection to NHL success.

John Cooper says hi. Won the Calder Cup and Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award in 2011/12. Was promoted to Lightning head coach the next season.
It's not like anyone else offered him a head coach job
Lol, the only team without a head coach at that point (when the Flames snuffed Love and hired Huska) was the Rangers. And even their deal was nearly done in principle.
BPC must have had some really good information/reason as to why this guy was passed up.
After First interviews he was the favourite.
Something had to of changed in second interview that I’m not aware of outside of some great PPT skills by Huska.
There was talk of Love being a flight risk if he didn’t get the next job in Calgary. End of the day Flames went with the guy that wanted to be in Calgary, not just a NHL HC.
It’s not the move I or OJs would have done but I’m not Craig Conroy.
I think the short term is dim for either guy in the HC seat here.

Strange he would take an external promotion when he likely had the same opportunity in Calgary. Probably a combination of more money and a more preferable situation.
He was not going to be HC in Calgary with his limited resume, and he didn't want to be here. Not feeling like the Flames really lost anything right now if that's the case.
Good luck and best wishes to him wherever he lands.

You do know teams are allowed to fire their coaches right? Nobody in the league was ready to give him an HC job yet
Odd that he'd join the staff of new coach coming in with a fat, multi-year contract, i.e. someone that is not going anywhere any time soon, rather than to TO where Keefe is living on borrowed time. But I have always suspected that he's not quite as hot a candidate as CP thinks. Maybe Washington was his only offer.
Im not certain Iginla's involvement in the Flames is a non intimidating aspect for some. Based on some of the interviews, im not sure Iggy has ruled off a potential coaching position in future.
Is this the part where you suddenly love every ex Flames
Nobody knows if Love is special or not...he did well in the AHL with a really good team
I think most decent coaches would have had a good record with Wolf in net....and this isnt new...I said the same thing a month ago
He is a coach, who knows
Fact is nobody else has hired him as a HC either
I'm just true to my opinions. I liked Love before and I like him now. Unlike you, my opinions of players and coaches don't magically change with a change in jersey.

Well I said the same thing about Love a month ago
Who knows if he is a good NHL coach
You like him because he won in the AHL with a really good team
Now he is gonna lose in Washington because their team sucks...coaching is very hard for fans to judge
