It really doesn't make sense to trade Dube right now. He's not overpaid and he's young. He's a 20 goal guy under Huska. 4 of those will be short handed.

Hes big but doesn't play big. He's also smart but can't quarterback a powerplay. 8 years at 6 a year would be strong for both sides. If some team gives him more than that they wl be disappointed.

Sucks to be a small market team. Tkachuk/Gaudreau/Lindholm was a core that could have won a cup with a good goalie.

I don't know if this is a small town problem or the mandate from ownership. I also think the Sutter hire (ownership again). Was a big factor.

I think it mainly lays on the feet of Tre. If he had re-signed Gaudreau when in the previous off-season then I think Tkachuk would have been more committed. If the Flames weren't a small market team then I think even with the issues around Sutter the UFAs would be more likely to stay.

The problem is ownership not recognizing that small market Canadian teams need to operate with a different strategy (ie draft and develop) than bigger markets. And it’s Edwards’ ego and stubbornness that prevent him from recognizing that.
