Assuming the vessel is still intact, they're out of oxygen now. It's over.

That assumes that they didn’t kill each other to extend the amount of oxygen they had. I think the guy who built the thing didn’t last long.

Father and son would probably be the last 2 standing(or kneeling, I guess), if that was the case.

A deep water robot sub has reached the Atlantic floor - and another is descending the 12,500ft of ocean fast. 'The Canadian vessel Horizon Arctic has deployed an ROV that has reached the sea floor and began its search for the missing sub', a spokesman said.
And a French ship viewed as the best and final hope of finding the missing Titanic submersible has also dropped its remote-controlled sub to find five missing adventurers. L'Atalante arrived on the scene at 11.48am GMT (7.48ET) and has deployed Victor 6000, which can reach depths of 20,000ft and will arrive at the Titanic's wreck in the next two hours.
Victor 6000 has arms that can cut cables - or dislodge a trapped or stranded vessel - and may be able to fix a cable onto the sub before it is hauled several miles to the surface by a giant winch with more than three miles of cable called a Flyaway Deep Ocean Salvage System on Horizon Arctic.

This seems like a needle in a haystack hunt, I wonder if they ever even find it. Such a small vessel that if in tact could be in a fairly large area, and if not intact would there be much to even find? I can't imagine many pieces large enough to spot would remain.

What do you mean “healthy”? How is it any healthier disliking someone because you don’t think they have good character vs disliking someone because they’ve amassed extreme wealth? How does health even begin to factor into it?

I wouldn’t put this into the same category as those who climb Everest. If you’re fit enough, have the money, are willing to accept the risk, go for it. I’d admire the accomplishment if you succeed. Dropping to the bottom of the ocean to see a ship you can see in other ways, and paying a quarter million to risk your life, is just stupid.

Spiritually healthy? I dunno. Seems like a pretty ####ty reason to dislike someone. Most accrued wealth has a lot to do with luck and circumstances as well, so it just seems pointless to dislike someone for that reason.

I mean… there’s a ladder for the 2nd step. It’s not easy, but it’s mostly just extreme tourism at this point.

Luck, circumstances, and taking advantage of the hard work of others.
Unless someone interacts with us personally or does something that impacts us personally, there is no reason to spend any energy liking or disliking them, whether they’re celebrities or billionaires or have a nice story to tell. There’s no point to any of it.
So, given that, might as well punch up.

It's not like being/becoming wealthy converts you to a husk of a human being. If you were dropped $100 million in your lap tomorrow you would still be you. And chances are these wealthy individuals have made larger philanthropic contributions than the people taking glee in their demise ever will.
It's just a funny thing how people think and the lines they draw based on only a few facts and no personal knowledge of the people involved or their motivations.
As the above poster noted, every one takes risks, and at least a few stupid ones over the course of their life. It's not unique to the privileged.

To be fair, I'd still be cracking jokes even if it was poor people. Joking about something doesn't automatically equal 'lol #### them, I hope they die'
Not like anything I do or say moves the needle on the outcome here

I mean, I guess it is a little interesting. I haven't done it, but to compare to rescuing the Thai children in the cave? I presume that thread had a lot less joking going on.
For me I think it's more that they 100% went into this of their own free will and choice, had many chances to evaluate the dangers, did it anyway, and by post #2 I had already concluded the most likely outcome. I would think I'd feel a lot differently if they were in communication, or there were some signs they were still alive. But at this point they aren't much different than Darwin award winners and people joke about those all the time. It's basically "play stupid games, win stupid prizes".

If you go with the lost power, failed safety systems option vs the fatigue of Carbon Fiber option then there is an intact sub to be found. The reported banging would also help locate it. Not sure how accurately though.

And that's totally valid. There's absolutely a stark difference between freak accident that could happen to anyone, and something like this where you intentionally put yourself there, and I don't think that's unfair to point out. But I doubt anyone in this thread is seriously thinking that they hope they're never found
Everyone's got their own level for what they find offensive and what they don't. I know my level is quite a bit higher than most would put up with, so I've largely stayed quiet in this thread. And I'm not going to tell someone their opinion is wrong either just because they find it distasteful. We're all different. I just don't like when people start getting holier than thou and talking down to people because they didn't like a joke they made. Some people are just used to tragedy so we don't see it through that same lens. And sure, some people are just a-holes
Your original post though, that was a 10/10
Edit: I'd tldr this thought with basically: Who gives a ####

I'll be honest. I can't muster much sympathy or empathy for these people. I don't have it in me any more to give a crap about every person on the planet, let alone these people who chose to do what they did in a sketchy homemade sub.
I care as much for that billionaire as he likely did for all the people he exploited to get the money he does.
I do care about the people who are living under tarps and makeshift tents near the LRT line I was riding on this morning. That pains me.
I usually don't pile on people suffering like this as I try to be a decent person, but something about this story just encapsulated how I feel about the excesses of the 1% while I struggle. I just don't care right now and am making the tasteless jokes I normally wouldn't.
At worst I'm a hypocrite as I've called out people in the past for making jokes that I feel are really tasteless, so I can at least shut my trap in the future when that happens.

Rich , Poor , Submarine, Cave , LRT, Tent
Nothing said on this message board impacts any of them. The sooner people realize what random peoples opinions and comments on social media and message boards has no impact on actual events the better
I hoped they would be found safe , and saw very few (any) actually wishing them a negative outcome . I also realize there is zero impact I have on this situation and nothing said here matters even 0.0001%
my opinion is anyone who has less empathy for these people because of their wealth is a petty , sad , pathetic individual . However , having little empathy for people you don’t know and just read about is completely fine - regardless of status. And thinking it was stupid to go down in this sub (and joking about it) is a totally rational opinion because it was stupid . If 5 middle class people from CalgaryPuck won a trip on this sub and went I would also be questioning their mental capacity.
Joking on a message board is akin to the thoughts and prayers posts after a tragic event - it just makes no difference
Disclaimer - unless someone knows the people involved then extra tact should be shown but people still shouldn’t take it personal that people who have zero personal connection to people are suppose to muster the energy to have empathy or emotion

I don’t think anyone is cheering for Rich people to die for their stupid choices, but there doesn’t need to be much sympathy for anyone dying while thrill seeking in obviously dangerous situations. The thought of what they’ve gone through is horrifying. I feel for what their stupid choice has done to their families and friends.
