Turgenev is underrated by some I think. Yeah he was offense only, which describes a bunch of players in the HHOF.

Guess he was overshadowed by some flashier players but he deserves it IMO.

And congrats to Vernon for sure. A borderline case but ice to see playoff performance rewarded.

He has a stronger case than Kipper IMO.

Very happy for Vernon. Between him and Wolf, Calgary will have a rich history of small goalies.

Gary Suter should be in the Hall.

When I saw the speculation that Lundqvist was going to get in, I was revving up for my annual rant about Vernon not being in the Hall.

Now, I don't know what I'm going to do with myself.

Congrats Mike. This is a LONG ####ING TIME OVERDUE.

Yup...entirely deserving and completely earned.

He was really good for a long time and did it with merciless treatment by fans for the first few years.

Really good stuff and all the others are great choices as well.

Joe was a contract holdout in 1995. Luckily it led to Iginla.

we were celebrating the Flames taking out the Hawks in the 89 semifinals in that same location- who should come in a little later but Hall of Famer Mike Vernon, freshly off the win. he proceeded to buy shots for the entire bar

little question peak Kipper (regular season or what have you) reached higher heights than Vernon, but Vernon (although maligned at times for sure and in a different era) really (IMO at least) went toe to toe with his HOF contemporaries Fuhr and Roy in some epic matchups over the years and fared well

the 3 rookies of 86 Suter, Vernon, Otto all turned the page in different ways for the Flames when it came to slaying the dragon and taking the next step , but Vernon stepping in and stopping the bleeding on the prolonged losing streak that season was the beginning of a wonderful run of years for the Flaming C

Does anyone know how many goalies led their teams to the Finals at least a decade apart?

Off the top of my head, in the post-expansion era: Fleury (2008 - 2018), Brodeur (1995 - 2012), Roy (1986 - 2001), Osgood (1998 - 2009), and Vernon (1986 - 1997).

Also, Hextall also did it in 87 and 97 although Snow started more games in the playoffs in 97, Hextall got their final 3 wins in the Conference Final and started 3 of the 4 games in the Final.

Who is a modern-day comp for Turgeon? Brad Richards, Spezza and Giroux come to mind, though I think Turgeon is probably a baby-step above them.

So for a 12 year period between 88-89 (his second season) and 00-01 (his last PPG season) he was 6th in NHL in total points and 12th in Points per game.

Thornton is pretty close but not perfect as he was more prolific and had more individual accolades but similar limited playoff success and both first overall picks.

Tavares when his career is over might be closest.

Both 1st overall picks, limited playoff success on bad teams, no real individual trophies or accolades, but Tavares is 4th in points over the last 12 seasons and 17th in PPG over that span.

So what? Iginla held out in '99 and almost again in 2002.

Lecavalier might be another good one, without the longevity of course. Or Sundin.

I think Thornton is a clear cut above with guys like Dionne and Ron Francis (Oates, Hawerchuk, Modano, etc)
