More like Hanifin for Nylander and Niemela.

Agreed. I’d like to see Conroy set the deadline and be done with it. If the rumours are true that they are still waiting then it’s time to take matters into your own hands. The draft will be very important for this team and if certain players aren’t committed or hesitant then it’s time to start going with plan B and getting as many assets as possible. The good news is that Conroy says he learned a lot from the Johnny situation and the club wouldn’t be making similar mistakes down the road.

Again, he CAN'T sign yet - not until July 1st.
Can't.

Yeah, time to move on. Come on Flames make the tough (not tough actually) decision already. Start the auction.

He also probably won't sign here unless we over pay him. Trade 'em! Trade 'em all!

Really bolster the top 6 that way, and with any kind of bounce back from Huberdeau, Kadri and Markstrom, this team will contend for the division IMO
|
Konecny seems to be this years Hamonic. Previously he was known by name mostly and now that he's been hyped everyone is a Konecny expert and wants him. He's been a good player leading to this season, and was better this season being a ppg guy (albeit with less games played), but he's 26. He is more or less what he is. This talk about him getting better is marginal. I hope the Flames do not go this direction and instead aim to get this years picks to draft young guys. A young team like Ottawa or Buffalo could use him, but the Flames need to get younger than him (and not pay a premium to get him when he's hyped).

We need a bit more organizational pride. I get it’s Calgary and it sucks to play for and wah wah wah the dressing room and pressure or whatever but at the end of the day these are NHL jobs and multimillion US dollar contracts. If you don’t want to play here then fata off, we will build a winner without ya and you can go toil in mediocrity in some sunbelt city with disinterested fans elsewhere.

Why?
Treliving was allowed to trade Glencross, Hudler and Russell when the conditions demanded it, and it worked out.

I'd rather dress 18 enthusiastic kids in Flames jerseys who bring a pelletier-like attitude about being here than a collection of vets that needed extra millions to be convinced to keep Calgary their winter home where they bring an entitled attitude to the ice each day.
Kadri's performance last year really outed him as a mercenary with no heart. I've never seen him play so badly with so little emotion (except for angst towards his coach for not wanting to give his ####y play more ice time..well no #### Nazem). Guys like that can be fired into the sun. He's welcome to bolt to the KHL.
I think you can get better performances out of worse players with an eager attitude than better/more talented players who are just coasting and collecting paychecks anyways.

This. I want them to trade lindholm for this reason. The guy didn't want to come back at the end of the season. People say it's because of sutter, but I say, who cares.
I want the flames to be a championship team. You aren't going to win with people who don't want to be here.
Can't trade Kadri because he sucks. We can sure trade Lindholm though. Whatever he wants is going to be too much. Trade him, Conroy. Please!

Vegas won not because they had the best players (Adan Hill probably won't even be a starter next year either), they won because they all got on the same page and went to the rink with a chip on their shoulders because they were all outcasts that had former teams give up on them or deem them expendable and they banded together to prove them wrong under a strong coach.
Attitude & motivation are pretty underrated factors. If talent trumped all then mcdrai would have ring collections.
I think it's hugely important to have a group of guys that want to be here and want to don the C. You need guys that will go through walls for Huska, and I fear that his ideas/vision may fall on deaf ears over time all the same because the players in that room don't share his passion for being here and playing here.

Vegas has one of the top 5 on paper talent as well
Heck they paid 90+ million for the talent last year

You don't win it with 18 kids and "enthusiasm" either. Unless maybe you're thinking of the Memorial Cup? In which case, you're watching the wrong league

Treliving traded Glencross because they wanted to make room for Ferland. Hudler and Russell were traded in years the team was in the bottom 5.
Unless a prospect is pushing for a spot or this team is completely off the bubble they might not move pending free agents for assets.

All 3 were UFA's still. Glencross traded while flames were on the bubble of a playoff spot. The trickle down of the picks we got for him, ended up getting is Lindholm, Hanifin and Kylington

I would guess the only way they’re pushing for playoffs is if some kids take jobs and make big impacts.
Specifically, the ‘Big Three’ - Zary, Coronato, Pelletier, and Wolf.
I don’t really view this group of veterans, with or without Lindholm, as a playoff team, and I will need to be convinced Markstrom isn’t being blackmailed by Eastern European gangsters before I buy into him again.
Fresh blood - they need fresh blood.

The organization definitely wants Lindholm back but if he feels otherwise and we are forced to move him you got to wonder what that means for Huberdeau and Kadri. I can’t imagine those guys wanting to stick around if we finally declare a rebuild. So do they look at futures or continue to make trades with keeping the team competitive because of the kadri and Huby contracts. I guess that’s where ownership makes the call and determines the direction which I fear won’t be popular.
