Ya, but they also said it can move(see, I read EVERYTHING!). Though maybe this is more of an Abyss situation, and the sub is now safely in their underwater facility? These people are special, and have been welcomed by our alien underlords.

I get that going on a non-certified sub was foolish and they were made aware of the risks but it doesn't make this rescue any less depressing as time is certainly running out if not already over.

Any excuse to bring up The Abyss is worthwhile.

Great movie..underrated.

I feel badly for him most.
People die all the time. People die on amusement park rides, in factories, in cars, every day, thousands are killed. These are 5 more, who did it in a very public way. I'm not really sure what obligations we have here.

You have to remember to put the punch line at the end, not the middle or you may find your joke doesn't make it to the surface.

I know for myself the utterly awful way these dumb schmoes are possibly going to die in the next 20 hours or so is so grim it's easier to joke about it to some degree, the fact that other than the outcome the whole thing is so utterly laughable, billionaires in ramshackle boats made from pvc pipes and the like doesn't help either

The levity in these tragic threads really buoys me up.

Embracing the certainty of death is one thing. Minimizing the value of human life is another. Still figuring out what your school of thought is exactly, but it seems rather dispassionate and unsympathetic in a bratty nihilistic way, and that's super lame.

Don't be too hard on yourself. We are making the best of a tough situation which doesn't leave a lot of breathing room.

Cool man.

Is it a tragedy? Yes. Is it something we have to be super delicate around? I don't really think so, for the reasons I laid out. People deal with things in their own way, and you judging them for it, and attempting to pigeonhole them is the lame part. Stop being lame.

I'm not sure thats completely fair. I have done a fair bit of reading on that one as well. I choose to believe that if a similar event was ongoing on our shores we would see a major response to it as well and likely more discussion here.

This missing sub situation is also largely different as it is shrouded in so much speculation on the experimental nature of the activity, the risk analysis or lack thereof of the participants and the time clock that has been placed on this. Its almost like a sick entertainment event as we watch the time tick down on the viable life clock.

The migrant ship is an awful tragedy no doubt about it but these are completely different events with different discussion points altogether. I dont believe anyone here is sitting at their computer/phone thinking "no big deal" about that event.

Life provides no guarantees and warranties to any of us. It only provides possibilities and opportunities. These men knew the risks going in and despite that chose to go on an adventure. In the end, if they die, were living life to it's fullest.

Yeah, this thread really caved from the pressure of the situation.

Yeah, it’s disgusting actually. Trivializing an ocean accident for your own amusement? What’s next? Movies about it with a forced love story with Hollywood heartthrobs? Maybe even you sick ####s will want to visit the wreck as a tourist attraction.
