Ya, but the 1st was guaranteed to be in the high 20s (if not 30s)

Also Sandin (well, a year and the remainder of that season).
And I think Chychrun had only 2 years left and is now on a team that’s in tough to re-sign him.

Sens have a tonne of room to re-sign him in 2 years, they would only be in tough if he wants to leave Ottawa.

Born in Florida. Moved to Detroit and Toronto to play hockey in his teens. Has family in Ottawa too.
If they pay him he will probably stay.

His dad is from there and his sister lives there. I have already assumed they are locking him up for 8 when he’s due.

I think it depends on how Ottawa looks at the time in terms of comparativeness. He wanted out of Arizona because the team didn't look like it was going to be competitive.

Does a trade around Hanifin and lafreniere make sense at all? If so, who would have to add?

Not really. NYR is pretty solid on D.

To my mind its a hockey trade, 1 for 1. laf will have his draft position as backup but if he stays what he is now about a fourty point player, it will go down as a bit if a stinker if a trade. I would take heidt, or richie, or honzek plus a good prospect and player over laf. Im not sure he is going to live up to his draft billing.

The Flames really need a Carter Verhaeghe or Alex Tuch type to unlock Huberdeau. Nylander would also be great. He can score and create his own offence to create space.

Nylander opposite Huberdeau with Lindholm down the middle would be one of the best lines in the NHL.

I don't think Nylander is a long term answer to the team. If you trade hanafin you for for assets to draft and or package down the road for an impact player when they occosionally become available

The problem with Nylander is that he needs a new contract after this season, and it's probably going to be $8 million+.
Lindholm is also going to be $8-9 million, then we have Huberdeau at $10.5, we have Kadri at $7, and Weegar at $6.25.
So $40 million on 5 players who are close to, or over 30.
Nylander would be a fantastic fit, but I think the Flames need to look for picks and younger/cheaper players that have unrealized potential.

If Kylington is indeed back this may be a blessing in disguise. Hanifin I will be looking for 7-8, maybe more, due to his pedigree. Big, sexy, skating D-man.
However, I feel his actual game impact is a lot left than his perceived talent. He will fetch a king’s ransom if traded.

I’d prefer going after Konecny.
To Detroit:
Hanifin
To Calgary: NYI 1st 23/ Van 2nd 23/ Stl 2nd 24
To Philly: Dillon Dube Calgary 1st 24 ( top 5 protected) Cgy 2nd in 23
Huberdeau Lindholm Konecny
Pelletier Kadri Toffoli
Mangiapane Backlund Coronato
Coleman Ruzicka Duehr
Klapka
Weegar Andersson
Kylington Tanev
Zadorov Stetcher
Gilbert
Markstrom/Wolf
Leaves about 500k in cap space if we can get Stetcher at around 1.4 per.
