He'll sign with Chicago to sit on the bench and snarl at anyone who looks sideways at Bedard.
And earn every penny of that contract.

He is the kind of person/player that I'll forever be able to wear his Flames jersey with pride.

His agent may have said, "Hey Craig, Can I begin talking to teams about Lucic for next year? I'll talk to anyone but Edmonton."

Probably the best face puncher in the league. Acts as a major deterrent. He can also still play in limited circumstances. Plus a great guy and solid locker room presence. I could see him getting a league minimum contract.
The fact the Flames let him go has me hopeful that they are freeing up roster spots for the AHL players, who are very deserving.

The “deterrent” thing is a line the fan base was being sold. No doubt Lucic is tough as nails, but the first thing that comes to mind is Trouba laying those hits last year. Having Lucic in the lineup did not deter anything, and his fighting ability was useless, still can’t figure out why Looch never went after Trouba.

I definitely don’t think he deterred anything. Players know they won’t have to fight him so why would they care?

Too good of a guy to not want to actually hurt anyone, so monstrous that he could easily hurt anyone in the league. .

Love Lucic and I'm a big believer in having as much toughness as possible, especially in the playoffs. However, he's almost useless on the ice now and I can't see him wanting the fight much more at this stage in his career. He's a family man, made all of his money, and won the cup.

I suspect he commands more respect in the dressing room than just about anyone on the team currently. With the right situation, he could be of use to some teams. But time for the Flames to move on IMO.

I remember more than once lucic was on the forecheck and the d man saw panicked and threw the up blindly. A few of those times it was an outright giveaway that caused a goal. Those don't show up on a stat sheet but help the team.
With that in mind, glad the Flames are moving on.

I'd take him back in a heartbeat on a League Minimum contract played either on the 3rd or 4th line with occasional stints in the press box.
He's not an 82 game player anymore, but I think he could play a role.
If not, Adios Looch. I liked the player. I liked the person. I hated the contract. Godspeed you glorious Tuskan Raider!

The issue with bringing him back at all was that he was clearly "Sutter's guy". If you want to show the team and fans you are starting out on a new leaf, bringing back Lucic isn't a great why to start.
I'm wishing the best for Looch, just not in Calgary.

Looch was great here! too bad Sutter didn't mange him properly the last 2 seasons.
and I have ZERO idea why he wasn't on the PP screening the goalie? like the PP couldn't have been any worse.

Loved having him as a Flame. One of my favorites in recent seasons. Seems like a great guy and a great teammate. I wish him well.
