I haven't seen much of the resources dedicated to this search, beyond a couple of Canadian and US coast guard ships. Canadian P-8's and American C-130s. they're also trying to get ROV's into the area.
I'm wondering where the Canadian Navy is in this, why aren't they deploying what Halifax Frigates that they have. These boats have trained submarine warfare departments. Active and passive sonars with towed arrays and they carry Cyclone submarines with dipping sonars and sonar buoys.
Now I get it, there's a real issue with thermo layers in the water as the temperatures change and they tend to deflect sound.
The US navy has lots of anti-submarine platforms, destroyers and frigates as well, but I haven't heard of their navy getting involved.

I hope they're limiting search resources to just involving ships/crew/aircraft that could benefit from the training and experience. No need to actually find this thing or invest too much. Just use it to give our guys and hardware some real-world experience that we were already going to be paying for in the training budget and leave it at that. There's just no point in going full-on Amber Alert for this thing. It's a giant BFD as far as Canadian taxpayers and resources go.

the column is from a rag, but I believe the info.
hopefully we'll hear form better news sources.
OceanGate REFUSED to put missing Titan sub through independent inspection process and also fired director in 2018 after he asked for more rigorous safety tests
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-concerns.html
OceanGate bosses fired David Lochridge, who was Director of Marine operations for the Titan project, in 2018 after it disagreed with his demand for more rigorous safety checks on the submersible, including 'testing to prove its integrity'.
The company also opted against having the craft 'classed', an industry-wide practice whereby independent inspectors ensure vessels meet accepted technical standards.
Classification involves recruiting an independent organization to ensure vessels like ships and submersibles meet industry-wide technical standards. It is a crucial way of ensuring a vessel is fit to operate.
In a blog post titled 'Why Isn't Titan Classed?', OceanGate suggested classification would take too long.
"'Bringing an outside entity up to speed on every innovation before it is put into real-world testing is anathema to rapid innovation.'"

I'm not sure the engineering principle of "move fast and break things" is really appropriate for deep sea subs.

I have to think this is a preview of the story for the space tourism industry. Some things are just inevitable given that pretty much any failure = catastrophic failure.

Honestly, my main interest in this thread is the jokes. I appreciated it!
I know some people take this stuff seriously and probably think "are there no depths that these people will sink to?"

I am a little torn. Not about the jokes, that doesn't bother me, but on one hand, I feel terrible for these people and have some second hand anxiety about the situation. But on the other hand, I think the phrase "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" applies here as well.

That interview with the reporter is gold. He's basically just laughing at this thing.
I'd be bailing the second I saw the controller.
Nope. Nope. Nope.
I want my money back.
