Also, Gross was Conroy’s agent, they probably have a good relationship.

In fact, Gross made a statement that sounded like he felt kind of bad how things went.

Well, Dunn isn't under contract, and Oleksiak plays both sides. But I figured if you're the Kraken, you're probably salivating at the chance to lock down your left side long term. They could sign both Dunn and Hanifin this summer.

Yup was going to say - he seemed kind of embarassed at the end, like he'd put his rep out there and gotten burnt by Gaudreau a bit.

If you were to inject truth juice into everyone involved there, I’d bet none of them are entirely happy with how it all turned out.

What's the point in adding Driedger in the deal? It doesn't seem like a fit for either side.

True. But Walsh has to deal with other GMs (and Treliving) and it's probably a bigger deal to him that when he says "yeah my client will accept that" or even gets close to it, that there's no significant doubt.

My face is a bum!

Surely Calgary native William Nylander would take a hometown discount to play in the spot where he laid down 3 years of roots and built lifetime friendships!

Seattle wants to dump him and Calgary can easily afford to absorb the minimal buyout cost (only $500k this year) for a greater return. Same as what they did with Ryan Murphy. He'd never play a game in the org.

I feel like the Flames can still get a good return and not have to take on a player and buy them out.

At this point, I’m assuming the flames have a trade in place for Hanifin at the draft but the other team won’t pull the trade until they are on the clock and know who is available at their pick. For example, if it is Buffalo and the 13th pick is in play, they for sure would want to see if a big name from the top ten lists drops to that spot which could likely make them change their mind or ask Calgary to add something to the deal to convince Buffalo to still trade it.

Taking a while to get to 5000

I can see it happening on draft day but not so sure it would be that late

Buffalo is the perfect partner I think as well. They should be in build up mode vs. draft mode. I think Lindholm is the better fit there. Straight up 1 for 1 would make sense, but I could see the Flames asking for a bit more because of the uncertainty. No idea if Lindholm would sign an extension there though.

It’s pretty common for it to be that late. A team trading a pick could look a little foolish if someone ranked much higher drops to that point and the trade was made way before anyone knows the players available. I think Buffalo is likely the highest pick the flames could get in either a Hanifin/Lindholm trade so I don’t think there will be as much pressure on the Sabres to move the pick before they are on the clock. Only scenario where it is earlier than that is if there are other teams offering something better than 13th overall. Then Buffalo may want the trade done before the opportunity to get Hanifin is lost.

The speculation from this Vancouver writer if the Canucks wanted to make a play for Noah would be the 11th pick, 3rd, 4th round picks and Garland. If the Flames made that move I think they would need to move one of Coleman, or Mangiapane because Garland is another near $5M cap hit for 40pts. Toffoli might make the most sense to move to sell high and he would be easy to deal.
If Noah isn’t interested in staying here I don’t see why he would want to stay in Vancouver long term.

I doubt that happens very often. If there’s a deal to be made, you make it. Sitting on it only increased the likelihood of it falling apart for one reason or another.
In reality the Flsmes are probably taking to several teams gaging their interest and identifying what/who the pieces are in a potential trade. If you get to a point where both sides are happy, you pull the trigger.

Wow, that would be quite a deal. I didn't think they could get the 11th for him but I suppose it makes sense.
