If he does that hurts and does not really help them add anyone good. $1.5 is only $725k above league min. Klostin at times was an effective player too.

These rarely happen, and I doubt anyone's going to offer up anything for Bouchard that involves a first round pick as compensation, he's not worth near that.

Yeah, the best thing the rest of the League can do is leave the Oilers alone to solve this for themselves.
They'll either wind up overpaying for whatever Bouchard is or...losing him for nothing.
Watching this debacle unfold will be a Festivus for the rest of us.

Here are some doozies. Number 3 will shock you.

3 Crazy Oilers' Trade Proposals for Vezina Winner Hellebuyck
Three trade proposals that the Oilers would never offer the Jets, but the Jets would be crazy to not accept.
Jack Campbell + Philip Broberg + 1st Round 2024 Draft Pick
Stuart Skinner + Xavier Bourgault + Evan Bouchard
Jack Campbell + Darnell Nurse
|
THN sure has gone down hill over the years.

If Jets GM accept any of these offers he should be fired on the spot.

Why would the Jets trade their best player for anchors and worse goalies?
Oilers people are clueless.

They are still in the 'Denial' stage of Grief.
Nobody is taking Jack Campbell off their hands unless you make it a sweet, sweet deal.
They just havent reached 'Acceptance' yet.

The are all great proposals (comedically), the problem is the only team that would make such apoplectic deals are the Oilers.
If the Oilers could only trade with the Oilers their troubles would be solved, until they strangled another roster with bad contacts.

There's a lot of gold in the "related articles" on there too. I liked this one in the replace Cody Ceci article: "Kailer Yamamoto and Cody Ceci could be considered trade bait to dump salary and regain picks in a deep 2023 NHL Entry Draft."
So they want another team to actually pay draft picks and money to take on their AHL garbage. So 3 things going in the Oilers favor in this dream trade, and the other team giving up 3 things.

You don’t just get Ceci and Yamamoto. You get players that played with McDavid. That ups their value significantly.

Chance to play with McDavid and Draisaitl sit on the bench and watch McDavid and Draisaitl play all of the power plays

The thing that boggles my mind is if Ken Holland had any clue he would trade McDavid this offseason. McDavid is not going to re-sign there when his contract is up, he will go to a big US market or the Leafs possibly if they move on from Matthews. With the season McDavid just had the return of young riches the Oilers would get would set them up as actual SC contenders for years but thankfully the fear of the backlash of trading McJesus will lead to them doing everything they can to try and keep him right until the end when he walks for nothing. Edmonton is truly No Good.

Frankly...I disagree.
McDavid is his own worst enemy by staying in bed with the Oilers.
Any team that is even on the cusp of being able to compete for the Cup wont be able to afford him.
Edmonton will only be able to take back equivalent salary and probably wont even be able to. How can any competitive team take on McDavid at the salary he's going to command without shedding tons of depth?
This isnt the NBA.
I think McDavid has hitched his wagon to the Oilers and thats that. Hes going to get paid a fortune, but he'll never win anything other than individual awards.

Don't underestimate the power of an agent, If McDoodle wants a move the agent will make it happen, fast forward to June 2026, when you see a team sell off salary you'll know there's a deal in place.

Imagine if the flames just start taking bad contracts for a year or 2 to help that team offload salary. Screw the oilers over and get him out of the division.

I imagine there will be teams right now making plans for that. I could see LA, NY and Vegas all setting themselves up to have the cap space set aside to lure in McDavid/Draisaitl. LA might even start with Draisaitl in 2025 and go for McDavid in 2026.
Before everyone points out how cap-strapped those teams are… a lot can change in 2-3 years. For example, I would not be surprised if Stone retires (LTIR) as early as this summer or next year. LA does not really have any “bad” contracts and quite a few of the higher contracts expire over the next 3-4 years. NY is a bit more of a mess but they always find ways to get the best players available in a similar way to Vegas. Another team to watch out for is Nashville. They seem to attract talented players as a FA market these days.

The Hawks have a ton of space. They could well decide to try to get Draisaitl while Bedard is still on an EFC.
