I am not 100% sure but I believe the American government passed laws that gun lobbyists and manufacturers cannot be sued as it would be deemed an infringement on the 2nd amendment. So unlike Tobacco and car makers anything associated with guns cannot be sued for wrongful death etc.

There's a vivid history of anti-Asian violence in the states too. Historical events like the burning of Black Wallstreet have become pretty well known in the US now, but there are also many lesser-known but equally horrific examples of similar events that happened to Asian communities in the US following the Exclusion Act. This shooting brings that side of Asian heritage in the US to mind.

This one hits pretty close to home. We were contemplating going this year to see Andy C.

So, someone decided to spray bullets into the campground after a concert. I don't mean anything negative by the add-on, I just didn't know where home was, and have never heard of Andy C.

Wow. I used to go Sasquatch Music Festival at the Gorge all the time, about ten years ago. What a travesty that people cannot enjoy anything anymore in that god forsaken hellhole that is the USA.

Concerts, campgrounds, nightclubs, schools, malls, grocery stores… seems like people down there aren’t safe anywhere anymore, and these shootings are happening so frequently, like one or two per week. It’s sad and it’s preventable, but the U.S. just refuses to do anything about it, even though the majority of citizens are in favour of common sense gun laws. What a f***ed up country.

The last place you would expect this to happen at - though I guess that’s the old saying and isn’t really relevant in the U.S anymore, where it can literally happen anywhere and any place and not be surprised anymore. Sad state of affairs.

Yeah. The old saying, "last place that would happen" simply doesn't apply in the US when shootings can happen at an elementary school, in a theatre, at a concert, in a place of worship, in a grocery store, in your workplace, in a moving car, etc. Hmm... Maybe airports and train stations are safe down there?

Actually, it's more than one per day for mass shootings

I was thinking of making the pilgrimage there with the gf to see Dave Matthews Band.....but maybe rethinking that.
I just can't think of any good reason to visit the USA these days.

In order to change, it would have to impact the people that make the laws…for example, if a mass shooting were to kill/injure several members of congress or senate (or their loved ones), I think it would change things from “thoughts and prayers” to “outrage and action” from the lawmakers themselves

If Sandy Point didn't change anything, nothing will.
It's just rinse and repeat, doesn't even register with most people unless it's more than 10 dead. Eventually that will become to common place and the new "give a ****" number will be 20.

I dunno, a politician got shot in the head for having the audacity to talk to the public, and nothing changed.
