You still need players during a rebuild. At worst they could flip Hanifin at the deadline for picks and prospects
I think the way to get this done is trade Hanifin for a futures package, let’s say a first and two seconds, then flip picks the Flames would then have for Koenecny.

I like Koenecny but this type of move would make a lot more sense if Lindholm signs an extension. If not, you keep the picks and trade Lindholm for a similar package, IMO.

We have a few old guys that we are stuck with.

I’d rather anyone on the wrong side of 28 with a contract expiring in the next year be sold off for youngsters. If we keep any of our upcoming FAs I’d want it to be Hanifin. If he really doesn’t want to be here sp be it, deal him and move on.

Take these leaks with a grain of salt, we are in prime negotiating time, a new GM is ripe for a rip off and our FA’s reps know it.

That’s nonsense. What an absurd take.

You don’t think Yzerman is trying to upgrade anything right now? They’ve missed the playoffs for seven years in a row and almost every move they made last summer (Perron Cabot Copp Husso Kubalik and Maata) seem to suggest a team that’s trying to improve, no? How do you think Larkin would respond to ‘we’re actually not trying yo get better right now. Let’s see where we’re at in 2-3 years’….please.

I would be shocked if Yzerman doesn’t use some of his picks to get better for next season. Hanifin and Lindholm are probably very attractive to the Red Wings.

Absurd? Have you seen them on paper? They're far from a contender, and they need that high end star. Larkin, Raymond, Seider (sp?) is a good starting point but still missing that one player who can take them over the top. As well as defence and goaltending. I don't think it was an absurd take at all considering they're still pretty far, and Steve is patient and from Tampa wasn't interested in doing things fast just because. We'll ultimately see but I don't think they're doing anything this year big deal-wise.

I think it is almost a lock the Wings make a big deal at the draft but I think they are going to get Debrincat but I could definitely see Hanifin as a target.

I think Debrincat is likely the guy they leave Nashville with but if they are in the market for a Dman I could see them wanting Hanifin. They can afford both if they want but that would cost most of their premium draft capital.

Nah, that ship has sailed. Everyone reading the thread knows that's what we get in here. Most concrete rumors get their own rumor/news thread. This is for the minor things, idle speculation, waiting for news & rumors, and Be-a-GM mode.

Detroit has the type of roster I want for us.

There's nothing wrong with losing, but have no bad contracts and 5 picks in the top 50. Immediate rebuild.

Yeah they are very far away still from being a contender. I think the Hronek trade signaled the same, if Yzerman though they were close he would not be trading big pieces like that. Heck, they weren't even close to a playoff spot. And none of their "core" pieces match up well against championship caliber teams, maybe with the exception of Seider who looks like a star in making.

IMO, the time is now for Steve Yzerman to make his moves. They built up a strong young core to compliment. I don't think they'd be rushing things making moves this year.

Maybe, but we could be in their situation right now had Treliving ended everything after the Tkachuk trade.

The pending UFA seven that we already have, keeping Monahan, and trading Huberdeau and Weegar. We'd have a roster that instantly looks like Detroit, minus anyone to build around like Larkin.

Trading for Koneckny now is the type of move that Canadian based teams make. Pay a ultra premium price to get a guy off his best season with a good contract who will be UFA in two seasons and likely leave.

Believe Koenecny’s wife is from Calgary and he offseason’s here. Good reason to think he would be a guy who wants to be here and sign long term. That’s part of the reason the Flames should pursue him.

We aren't in any position to trade for Konecny or DeBrincat or anyone like that. We need some premium 18 year old players to play with Pelletier, Wolf, Coronato, etc.

Well, we’re not in any position to acquire premium 18 year old players either, so parlaying some of the assets we acquire for pending UFAs into good (obtainable) pieces seems a whole lot smarter.
