Vinny is right. So I figured I’d start it. I already posted this in the Hanifin thread but I’ll put it in here too to start next season’s trade rumor thread off:

Would be interesting to see what type of return Hanifin is able to garner. He is still really young and his entire contract extension will be pretty much prime years.

Trading away the one asset we should be signing and doubling down on the aging vets for a team that missed that playoffs is wild. I guess if they truly believe Darryl was the biggest issue, it makes sense to try again with so much money committed to Huby, Kadri and Kadri

You can't sign him if he doesn't want to sign. Or only will sign for a prohibitive cost.

Doesn’t necessarily mean they double down on the aging vets. I could totally see Lindholm still being traded. Conroy’s presser when Huska was announced didn’t sound too optimistic.

Hope we can add some '23 class draft capital in any Hanifin deal. Keen to see if we can either get some more at-bats and/or attempt to trade up if the right deal presents itself.

I'm not a Hanifan and believe he is overvalued. Hope the team can aquire a legitimate play driving forward for him.

Dream scenario:
Lindholm to Columbus for 3rd overall (unlikely but I can dream)
Hanifin to Detroit for 17th and 2 2nds
Carlsson
Perreault
Simashev
Rebuild accelerated real fast

Hanifin has a lot of value. But the difficult part with these sorts of deals is finding a team that not only wants him and has assets that the Flames want, but that can fit him into their cap structure.
This article is about a possible landing place for E Karlsson.

Different player (RD for one thing) but the gist of it will be the same for lining up a Hanifin trade - it’s really hard in today’s NHL to make deals involving big contracts. Half of the interested teams will have to make other deals first just to free up the cap space.

Salary retained w/ Hanifin and he's a very valuable piece.

A couple trades I would love if Hanifin won't stay
Hanifin for pierre-oliver joseph + 2023 14th oa
Hanifin for bolduc + leddy + 2023 28th oa + 2024 2nd

New thread!
…I’ll sully it with an off-season prediction:
Flames acquire Taylor Hall (for a cheap price).

Hanifin to the Caps for 8th OV. That's my prediction.

I think the cap problem relates more for his 8 year contract after next season.
Unless some teams view him strictly as a rental. Where he also has very good value.

$9.5M doesn't make sense... he's never put up the career years like Point has.
It's probably $8.5-9M
