home theatre systems
well after moving and looking to soon buy a 46' Sharp Aquos LCD, i'm in the market for a decent audio setup. now i'm past the point of caring for the utmost quality in my stereo system and am looking for an all-in-one system, preferably within my $1000 pricerange. anyone have any suggestions?

If you can get over the overly talked about importance of 5.1 sound...the Bose 3-2-1 system is great. Not near as many wires running around the room, and Bose sound is great. It fills the room very nicely, and provides deep Bass effects while watching movies.

But seriously, take a look at it. I believe I paid around 1299 for it...so a little more than what you mentioned.

i was looking at that one specifically when i was at Best Buy yesterday, but after reading some reviews and customer comments on Amazon it seems to be a very overpriced system for what you get. plus i'll have no issues running wires with how it'll be setup so i'd prefer a true 5.1 system

I've always read Bose isn't bad sound but you pay a lot for the "Bose" name and there are other better systems you can get for the same prices.
The big thing about a HTPC setup is connections. Make sure there will be enough for all your A/V equipment. Consider everything you have an may want to get, it is in this area that a lot of equipment comes up short.
Consider there are enough connections for Audio (CD, receiver (AM & FM), do you still use cassettes?, turntable?) Video (DVD, HD-DVD, Cable/Sat, video game console(s), VCR?, Camcorder?)
If you get something that you aren't happy with you will end up replacing it soon rather than later and spending more money in the long run.

Bose stuff is definitely a bit overpriced, I gues that's what you're able to do when you have the rep bose has...whether or not it has been earned is a matter of opinion.
I was just browsing the bestbuy site myself for some new speakers...it looks like the price of most 'all in the box' systems have really come down nicely. I'd stay away from the Sharp systems...They've put a lot of money into their LCD TV line, but I think their sound systems still lack quality.
By no means am I an expert though.

I recommend building a custom system from Energy Canada
For a receiver, you can never go wrong with H armon/Kardon

Stay away from the Samsung HT-85 if you're looking for the HTiB solution. I bought it a couple months ago and I'm now looking at replacing it.

Yep, I agree with you and Psycnet...if the OP can afford to, he should go with what you're recommending. It seems like he's trying to keep things at about $1000.00 Which is why I recommended the systems in the links in my post. They would all be better than a typical "home theatre in a box".

Onkyo 790 series...7.1 channels 1000 watt...just google it...Around $800 at Visions...I believe it is amognst the best bangs for the buck bar none!
the only lows? No HDMI switching...not particularily sexy looking...that is all

Not positive, but I'm confident it means having the ability to plug multiple HDMI inputs into your receiver, and have one output going to your TV. It really only matters when your TV has a limited number of HDMI inputs.

ah. well i'll just be worrying about hooking my digital cable box and Xbox 360 up to it (and i believe i can use my VGA cord for the 360) so hopefully that won't be an issue
and if i understand correct, HDMI just basically combines all the video and audio signals into one cable right? or are there other benefits to using it over standard RCA jacks and digital audio ports?

That could be...I've always thought that it was just video, but I'm also the guy that up there ^^^^^ told someone to buy Bose.
Color me "uneducated by no fault of their own". I've since taken back my 3-2-1 system and am on the hunt for something else.

I have a Bose 10+1 system with a Pioneer VSX-1016TXVK. Its not in your price rage, I got the 10+1 for $700 back at the Best Buy grand opening in Edmonton when I was in school there.
Amazing sound for the X360, WII, and Vista Media Centre. Very happy with the system.
I just got the Pioneer reciever last week. I put my older Denon on Craigslist.
