Conroy has a fair bit if Lindholm wants to stay. Lindy has zero control about where he goes for the year, unlike either Gaudreau or Tkachuk (the latter because no team would take him without a sign and trade, so he said where he'd do it). There are IMO more teams that would either roll the dice on being able to extend Lindholm or be happy with him as a one year rental.

No way he would get 10.5, I can see him asking 9.5 and settling for 9 million if he gets eight years. But it's a valid point that Huberdeau's contract will drive the price up and that Lindholm would probably settle for less somewhere else.

Thats pretty much it. He's also going to have the leverage in trade locations as well.
We can only hope he's willing to work with Conny to facilitate things, like chucky did. If it comes down to trading him.

Not that hard to figure out. Huberdeau got a massive contract because he earned it. I love Lindholm, he's a great player but he hasn't earned a contract like Huberdeau'. Ideally 8 x 8.5. But I would bend and give him 8 x 9.

It's not the same - only Calgary could extend Tkachuk for 8 years.
Lindholm is more like Stone - he can refuse to talk extension with other teams, but have talks with others if Calgary lets him.
But he's also pretty valuable as a cheap but high end rental to a team like Colorado.

Colorado is an interesting one for me in regards to Backlund and Lindholm.
I was floored that they didn't address their number 2 centre position this year at the deadline. You could tell they really missed Kadri.
Landeskog is a bit of a wildcard because he's such a big part of the team, but it may be wise to attempt to move on without him. Or at least structure their team so that there isn't a gaping hole when he's injured.
With McKinnon, Rantanen, Makar they are absolutely in a window to win now. But is Sakic going to be patient with his young players?
Many of the traditionally top teams in the league are kind of going through an identity crises. Boston isn't getting younger, Washington and Pittsburgh are getting closer to a rebuild. Is Florida truly the next top team in the east, or did they catch fire in a bottle? Aside from Vegas, many of the "top" teams in the west aren't really that great.
There is a real opportunity for Colorado to be a true powerhouse for a few years. Interesting to see what they do.

I think Colorado still makes the most sense for Lindholm. The Girard, Newhook, 2023 1st is a great package for Lindholm. They also likely re-sign him with Landeskog on the brink of never returning. That gives them the space to extend Lindholm. If that's too much, or we extend Lindholm, send Backlund over there for just their 2023 1st round pick. Or Newhook + 2nd/3rd (Colorado making the playoffs).
Montreal would still be my target for Hanifin. Dvorak + Florida's 1st + Colorado's 2024 2nd + a top 10 prospect from their system would be what I'd want from them.
OR, take away Florida's 2023 1st and 2024 2nd and have them offer back our conditional pick from the Kadri trade OR get Guhle. I doubt they'd give up Guhle. I think with Caufield signing and Dubois likely heading to Montreal, it might push Montreal to start making "playoff push" moves.

He doesn’t have any trade protection surprisingly. So his only leverage is if he wants to sign somewhere this summer.

There is also a premium put on Center as a position.

A slight premium, sure.
I really think a 6 year deal at 9M per season is the number which is comparable to a guy like Filip Forsberg who signed to 36 years old at 8.5M per with slightly better offensive results.

I think these are generally realistic proposals.

You're not getting Newhook, Girard AND a 1st. Maybe a middle round pick.

Just because Lindholm's agent made a high ask doesn't mean that's it, we have to trade him. This is how every negotiation starts. If there was an ask that actually indicates Lindholm is open to an extension. Like I said before, would be shocked if Lindholm is not extended.

Even if they would offer that I think the Flames need a center back in a trade. Going to next year with Kadri and Backlund as your #1 & #2 centers would be laughable.

A few comps I would look at for Lindy and Hanifin. All top roster players are close to or at UFA.
Hampus Lindholm
Bo Horvat
Seth Jones
I think this season brings a few additional opportunities for the flames to maximize value.
-Weak UFA Market
-Flat cap this season 23-24
-Big cap jump projected for 24-25
Teams might be salivating at adding a Lindy and Hanifin for under 5million in a flat cap then pay them when the cap goes up.
Additionally, if the flames are willing to take a contract back and/or retain, I think they could get an absolute haul.

Newhook isn't that good and their first is late.
Girard is the main piece and frankly isn't close to worth lindholm.
I wouldn't do the trade as stated, definitely wouldn't do it for less.

If that packaged were on the table, Conroy would drive Lindy to Colorado himself.
