I can't remember the numbers he cited, but my physiatrist said something similar. They were bad numbers, like 25 times (?) more likely to sustain a catastrophic injury on a motorcycle, all other things being equal
Years ago when I showed up to an appointment with a motorcycle helmet he said "sell your motorbike". And then I clarified that I actually I rode my scooter. "Sell that, too"

If motorcycles were invented today they wouldn't be allowed on the streets. I used to ride but after losing friends and family to bike accidents I decided it wasn't worth it.

I hate motorbike season. This weekend the sport bikers were ripping up and down Mcknight from about 10:30 to whenever I could tune them out. Not gonna lie, kinda hoped they just hurry up and crash and get it over with so I could get some sleep. I don't understand how the cop shop is a few blocks away, yet they never seem to hear/do anything about it.
And the load pipes wieners who can't go up a hill without emitting 130db can also go suck a dick. Try to enjoy outside time and all you can hear is this ####faces. Can't wait until they are all electric. Gas motorbikes should be banned, just for being so damned obnoxious.

While we’re at it, how about these dopes with fartcan mufflers and rattling heat shields that sound like my bum after some bad curry. And these damn diesel truck drivers rattling away. And these total dbags in their Ms and ISs and AMGs with those god awful barbblebarbble cans. And those geezers 5.0 with those dronemasters. #### it, we only get a few months of summer, can we just ban everything so we can all miserably watch our ####ty NBC dramas in god damned peace!

Had a guy, with a passenger on the back, pass me on the left side meridian this weekend on Stoney. Apparently the 115 I was doing, passing traffic, wasn't good enough for him. He did it to about 4 other cars too.

Motorcycles are ok, it’s not my thing. Ok, I’m a boat guy. With a family I find that we spend quality time together on the boat. Not a yacht, or a super expensive boat, but it works for us, and we have enough room for another family.
I get the appeal of motorcycles, I did lots of riding when I was a kid, but in my current situation a motorcycle would be kinda selfish.

My friend who's an ER nurse was telling me hilarious stories of people who had the "million to one shot, doc" kind of experiences. She says it's way more common than you'd expect and none of them want to sit down in the triage section. Some of the objects make you realise that people are just plain stupid. For example, fluorescent light bulbs...WTF are you thinking?

The news story a few years ago about the two young parents who died on a motorcycle leaving their kids orphans will stick with me forever. It just seems so selfish to me, why not just pause such risky activity at least until your kids get a bit older?

My dad is no longer able to (he has MS), but he used to ride and it gave me very mixed feelings. I was 13 when he first started, and I used to think it was quite selfish of him.

Live in Mckenzie towne and there is a strangely high proportion of 40-50 year olds driving their super loud mustangs around. Nobody thinks your cool, congrats you bought the worst performing sports car money can buy.
Gold chain, tribal tattoo, oakley's, solid beer gut, braided belt, and new balance shoes, that's what I picture every time I hear one and if i see them I go at least 3 for 6 sometimes 5 for 6.

Anyone in Alberta buying a large recreational vehicle primarily for good weather usage (boat, large camping trailer, motorcycle, etc.) is wasting their money. Which, if you have money to waste, fine whatever, but we know lots of people who are always complaining about money and making ends meet and then going out and buying things like this.

I've had two mustangs and they're kind of out of my system now, but I think you're misunderstanding what these guys are up to. Nobody is trying to impress you and I don't think any of them would think you think they're being cool. They're just really fun. It's a totally visceral experience hammering on a mustang, and the sound is a huge part of that.
My '87 was the most fun. I had done headers, gears, exhaust, subframe connectors, etc etc. It was a monster and so loud and awesome sounding for me. I was under no illusions other people were impressed. It's just so fun doing burn outs and kicking the ass end out, or just straight line accelerating. It's all for the driver and it is legitimately fun. Standing smoke shows were also hilarious.
I think you have to be in one to get it. I worked an office job when I had it and it was kind of an unusual car compared to the sea of Civics and lame SUVs all my coworkers drove. I'd take them for rides and not once did that car fail to make people laugh hysterically as smoke was pouring out of the wheel wells or we'd get it sideways while maintaining a burnout.
Calling them the worst performing sports car also misses the point. They're a pony/muscle care more than a sports car. It's a different driving experience and still super fun and even more fun in some ways. Also, probably not anymore, but for many years they were the most horsepower per dollar of any car on the market, so again, don't know how you can say they're bad performance for the money when literally the exact opposite is true.
They're attainable fun. We're lucky they're still made and I think the car community is fortunate such a wild car is within reach of so many.

Sorry. Read the bold below. Nothing personal.
Comments that imply people should become sensory deprived husks for someone or something else. I wouldn't say those parents were selfish. Reckless? Possibly. But only because hindsight, they were dumb because those parents didn't think it'll happen to them if they were careful and they were wrong? I don't think that's what you're truly trying to say. This just triggered me to some of the comments others make.
As a parent, sometimes you need activities to feel like you're alive. To have nostalgia of the days when you were carefree. To remember the days of being carefree and being excited you're raising a child to follow in your footsteps, or guide your child to create their own path instead of following the foot steps in front of them.
Some people say pause. Pause until when? When your body hurts and you can't anymore anyways? Basically forever because kids are 16+ or older and don't want you to be in any form of risk? I know many people who are like this and comment like this to parents.
Parents sacrifice a #### ton for their kids. Many have sealed off many hobbies, activities, opportunities etc. for financial, time and other reasons for their kids. Sometimes, they just need a taste of it.
When raising kids, there is a concept of risk control. You cannot remove all risk from a child's life and expect them to grow up as a well adjust adult. Children need to be able to and learn how to address risk and have a threat as a consequence... but incidents and consequences reduced. Otherwise, they just turn into weird robotic husks. IMO, in the same way, parents also need to seal off certain risky activities, but to have controlled risk activities to reset, avoid parental burnout, mental health etc. and avoid being a physical, emotional and mental husk. It's not fair to consider parents must be completely self less. Like the tiniest bit of "selfishness" cannot be considered "self care". #### anyone who says parenting isn't stressful.
Some people are capable of sealing off everything cold turkey. Not all people are. Didn't we learn this throughout the pandemic already? You're dying inside mentally but being diligent in isolating your family. You desperately want to go for a sit down meal or something, see people... but what if you get Covid and someone around you dies?
Like, we live in a sanitized and safe society. Some people don't get the same endorphin rush doing yoga or going on a 4-5 hour hike as speeding down a road with the wind in your hair. Being a parent is exhausting and sometimes we need to have those activities that will help us quickly reset and turn back from a monster that resents children for changing our lives to a nurturing parent who is excited for everything child. Do we have to be numb? Because I feel like I'm a better parent when I'm not numb.
Have you ever driven 10-20kmph over the speed limit to get somewhere faster? You could have a lapse in decision making and die. Have you ever done 30kmph+ with no kids in the car to put a #### eating grin on your face after a rough day? You could have a lapse in decision making and die. Why drink or eat unhealthy or smoke or sleep deprive ourselves instead of living longer for the kids?
I am not trying to tear your head off. I'm just absolutely froth raging lost and ranting right now to get something off my chest. Nothing personal. I apologize if my post felt a bit pointed at you.
Reason: Miscarriage ####ing sucks.
I'd like a cigarette, have my body beaten into a pulp via sport or fight, get dummied in a car crash... something kinda ####ed up (but not really, but yes really) to feel something to drown out the fog... to empathize... I don't knot. Some feeling to break through the numbness that has become automatic in some of my social and emotional survival... especially as a parent. But I'll be the stoic one as required. I'll be "fine" in a week or whatever. This isn't the first... I have the info and tools to approach it... I'm not even the one going through the miscarriage. I'm just a bystander... So as other say, it's not as bad for me, right?
#### those people.
EDIT: Not my wife and I for the miscarriage. It was a friend. Idiotic thing was said that really pissed me off.

I am so sorry both of you are going through that again. I hope you are able to overcome sooner than later. I understand the numbness. You are right, I do not see riding a motorcycle with dependents as selfish. I think it's only looked at this way because it's just the one person riding it. I look at things like boating, and not only are there fatal accidents, they also include kids drowning etc. Should we say a father is selfish because he wants a ski boat, then takes the kids along and one of them dies in a drowning? Is motorcycling or dirtbiking selfish if you also have your kids riding as well at a very young age? Is it selfish to push your kids into your same hobby so you can keep doing it, putting them at risk? Or is this called living life and having fun, which inherently has risks involved. Man I dislike the word selfish. Seems to be thrown around too easily.

Maybe so but me enjoying burnouts and how loud my car is at he expense of every person in the community is a little selfish, they may not think they are cool but do they realize everyone hates them? If you want to floor it go out in the country not down residential streets.
