If it's the groom only, renting a tux could make sense vs purchasing one to keep and re-use.
But if it's groomsman, IMO chat with the group and decide heavily to ditch the rental idea. No one is paying super close attention to them unless it's a seriously egregious fashion foul.
Go grab some decently nice and cheap unified $100-200 options from like H&M and pay a fee to get them altered. Groomsman can still keep them for going out to clubs and whatnot and/or semi casual suit requirements for some other events they may have. I think for around $350 per groomsman you can do a suit jacket ($100), pants ($75), dress shirt ($50), alterations ($75), tie ($20), belt ($25) and socks ($5) for a unified look and I'm being conservatively high on some of those amounts. A few of the prices might even get volume discount/free shipping/cashback etc. depending on site and whatnot and a few even added an extra $50 for sneakers to wear (vs different shoe look). That's what a few of the weddings I went to in the last 3-8 years have been doing. Bride and groom paid for it or heavily subsidized it and then the groomsman got to keep the clothes.

You can play with the combinations yourself and see what the cost might be. You don't have to do H&M only. You can mix and match (ie: Dress shirts from somewhere else, shoes etc.). Poke around and just see which fits the wants of the group. Banana Republic for instance occasionally (but not always) has pant and jacket combos for <$100 to $200 which might be in range. Because Banana has more size selection, the alterations could be cheaper as well due to minimal modification required and basic alterations are included in certain scenarios. Dropping $1.5 to 2.5K at some of these places could accumulate enough rewards to get a whole bunch of stuff probably tossed in/discounted to stay within budget.
I had one buddy who did H&M suits.
I know another who sent one guy to do a custom order from Hong Kong and made sure they arrived a month before wedding just in case. They hired a professional seamstress in Calgary to take the measurements and added like 1-2cm to certain measurements as per seamstress suggestion + requesting excess fabric for future alterations. This to ensure everyone could at least get into the suits even if they gained a little weight and made it easy for alterations if required. Hiring the seamstress to measure everyone is worth it. No alterations on any of the ones measured by the seamstress. Only one suit needed minimal alternations once the suits arrived. But that was a combination of the guy was out of town, so had to measure himself AND then he lost an additional 15 pounds from when he took the measurements.
I think tux rentals are around $300 or so starting and you keep nothing. I've also heard many stories about how there were not enough tuxes or suits of a certain style to keep a unified look for all of the groomsmen which shot the prices into a higher range anyways. Even if this suit idea doesn't last more than a few wears, as a disposable concept, at least you get more than one wear out of the cost paid for the groomsman.
EDIT: if you are not part of the bridal party and just renting for yourself because you rarely wear it, point still stands. An inexpensive tailored combo with $300-350 budget is better than renting IMO as it has more than a one time usage. Use 2-3 times and you're laughing to the bank. You could use the parts as semi-casual or something to just beat to #### out of and not worry about it getting destroyed when you go clubbing.
