How close is he to a Yak? That guy gives me nightmares.

Close in what way?
Skill wise he's the best Russian prospect since Ovechkin. If not for the Russian factor, and if he had played at the WJCs I firmly believe there would be a conversation between him and Bedard for 1st overall

Not that it matters much, but Michkov was 2 points better than Bedard in the 2020-21 U-18's....

Rumblings about Lafreniere getting traded on twitter. Could be nonsense.
Edit: seems to stem from some local media theorizing.

Oil fan?
Why would Yak give you nightmares. He turned out to waste an Oilers first overall. Yak is awesome just for that.

Please never say that again.
My wording was poor.
Nightmares as in seeing Russians that put up a lot of points and are open to comings to the nhl and busting hard.
I would love to gamble on him just don't want him to be a Yak 2.0 that is all.
The upside sounds tremendous.

I still maintain that Yakupov had 1st overall talent and was not developed properly. Not all 1st overall picks should go right to the NHL, but Oilers gonna oil. Granted, there was chatter that Yakupov was going to go back to Russia if he didn't go right to the NHL and the Oilers felt pressure, so a big part of it was his attitude as well. They really should have traded that pick. Another team would have brought him into the NHL, but would have likely kept teaching him and developing that talent instead of just letting him do whatever he wanted. A team that didn't need an immediate savior likely would have been a better place for an 18 year old whose ego needed to be checked.

Not even close to Yak. He’s closer to Ovechkin than Yak.

Interesting comment from Lebrun today on Nylander. He has the same agent as Gaudreau and Treliving is not interested in a long negotiation so perhaps we see him moved this summer. Tree has also talked about prioritizing the defense. Could the long discussed Hanifin for Nylander swap occur? Conroy likely can find out from Gross if Nylander would want to stay. Toffoli could then be traded for picks/prospects.

Lanny did that once too, "was praising how wonderful the oilers game was against Colorado" Another time he was also caught posting with 2 different sigs at the same time. Could never figure out why he could say certain derogatory things about our players.
I am still on the fence about that one.

I mean you can check my history I've only really bashed Sutter for the way he handled last season.
I worded what I was trying to saying wrong. I just asking how close he could be a bust like Yak just because of the Russian factor because that would be a player I would love the team to take a swing on just because of the upside.
Is he more of a legit Ovechkin or are we looking at a potential Yak. That's what would give me nightmares taking a Yakupov in a deep draft.

If this happened you would also ne banking on getting an improved Killington. but ya I'd be excited to see that happen.

Are you sure? Constantly rails on the coach. Thinks our best players are replacement level parts. Cousin of Stang. NDP voter (this one is fine) but more Edmonton people than Calgary people so it supports the theory.

Most threads would be a lot better if people didn't force-feed the Oilers into them.

Dream target in a Lindholm trade.
I’d love to see the Flames get Laf.

I wonder how much the Ranger want to go all in for next season. They had a really great regular season, but followed it up with a really disappointing playoffs. Many of their key pieces are starting to get up there (Panarin, Krieder, Zibanejad, Goodrow, and Trochek will all be in the 30s going into next season, Trouba not far off). They should be good for a few more seasons, but I think their window is now and the clock is ticking.
I team like that might be willing to over pay for a full year rental like Lindholm who has a below market cap hit. It will allow them to load up.
I wonder what we would have to add to get Kakko and Laf with Lindholm being the key player going back the other way.
