I'd definitely be more enthused around Love than Huska. Hard to judge this hire as a fan either way, but I definitely would be leaning towards having a fresh start on the bench.

Huska feels like there'd be more expectations on him, whereas Love would be a "developing a coach while we develop the team" style hire.

Whelp, I definitely had not idea Huska played on the Blazers with Iggy.

I just can't see the team taking a month of research, calls and interviews with virtually anybody available outside of the few big ticket guys and through all that coming to the conclusion that an assistant with mediocre coaching results is THE guy for this team.

Would be extremely underwhelming, unless he's surrounded with serious talent & experience.

I think the players are going to be running around like a bunch of kids with no Sutter scowling at them. I have no problem if it's Huska or Love. The name I'm kind of excited about is Tanguay. Always liked him.

It would be great if our own insider got this right, and TMZ Frank had Conroy as the top candidate for the Flames throughout the process and has had Love as well.

But you have a guy who went on national tv during the intermission of the finals to give this bit of news. I don't think he would risk his reputation like that which leads me to believe it is Huska.

He said he was the favorite, but also repeatedly said this is not a done deal

Winning/Resume

Reputation
Smarts

Loyalty to current club
Or maybe the priority for the new head coach should be his ability to communicate with players. Lots of things go into winning. Not all of them healthy.

The head coach needs to properly lay out the expectations of each player and what their roles are on the team.
He needs to communicate with players when they are meeting or failing to meet those expectations.
He needs to be able to identify and provide the proper encouragement and training to those players so that they can meet the expectations and get better as players and human beings.
He needs to be able to hold players accountable when they are unwilling to meet the expectations.
He needs to be able to foster a culture of team work, and team spirit that has everyone working the same direction for the same goals.

Winning resume might be a way to gauge someone you don't know but for candidates that you have interacted with for multiple years and have had player interviews about you should not be basing it on what their winning record is or not.

Would be kind of funny if Steinberg, Friedman, Weekes et all were all saying Huska and it ends up Love

Is Tanguay still in the fold? I'd be happy if it ends up to be Tangs.

Sec214 (at least how I read it) suggested Detroit was ok with Tangs interviewing for a HC spot but might not let him leave for an AC role

Would they be ok if the "A" is associate not assistant? Honest question.

Don't know. But I suspect in the end they wouldn't stand in his way if he wanted to come to Calgary. Might try to get a prospect for future considerations or something out of the Flames.
