Have you looked at those rosters? Kenny Agostino was the leading scorer in Adirondack and Stockton the first two years.

As an assistant, being a good developmental guy who knows the x and o's is fine.
For head coach you need a guy that can motivate groups and has a track record of doing so.
Making the AHL playoffs is a pretty low bar and he saw 1 round in 4 years as the guy.
He seems like great assistant coach material. Not sure he's cut out to be the HC. Hopefully am wrong.

Eric Francis just now: "the organization is excited to be going in a new a direction...it's important to move forward with continuity"
Continuity of mediocrity is the only thing this team has done.
(Not directed towards the Huska hire exclusively...but this organization is signalling that it absolutely is not moving in a new direction)

How do you know he can't? Evaluating coaches isn't the same as evaluating players on the ice. The vast majority of what they do is behind the scenes. The players all were very vocal during exit interviews of what the issues were. If Huska was also part of the problem, he wouldn't be getting hired.

Paid dues is just another way of saying he has a variety of experience.
Love was great in the AHL, but you look at the list of AHL coaches of the year winners, it is really hit and miss on who becomes a good NHL coach, mostly misses in fact especially for ones that went directly to an NHL HC job.
There is a big difference between coaching young players still trying to make it big and who need to prove themselves, compared to working with multi-millionaire Prima Donnas with attitudes and arrogance. For me, that was a big issue with Love. Coming in as an NHL assistance is very meaningful experience.

Have you seen this roster? A collection of journeymen and good but not great players that is poorly balanced.
We need a guy that can get a team to be greater than the sum of its parts. That's the reality of the situation.
I think with Wolf entering the fold in the coming years, Love was the right decision. He also has familiarity with most of the prominent young prospects who will be graduating. He's had success with that group, so he's proven first hand that he can get the most out of the guys in the Flames system.
I don't know how Ryan exceeds a choice that made too much logical sense, with a winning track record.

Jared Bednar saw 1 round in his first 3 years. Capped it off with an AHL championship in his 4th year, of course, but then took the Avs Head Coach position and had a franchise-worst season. 5 years later and he's a Stanley Cup champion.
These things aren't as straightforward and easy to plot as people want them to be.

Kenny dominated the AHL and won the scoring race by 15 the year after that. Top tier AHL talent

Can't believe no one's talking about Weekes completely blowing a Ryan Huska story less than one year ago.

Also, Nathan Mackinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, Cale Makar, Mikko Rantananen...
I'm not going to judge Huska on team success ultimately - as I don't believe he'll find any, and I don't believe it will be his fault.
I'm hopeful he can bring young players along (and by young, I mean 18-20 year old players - not 26-28 year old players)

The only thing that I find reassuring is they had no problem canning Sutter after exit interviews. You’d have to think if the players had issues with Huska, he’d be shown the door too. Not sure if it’s the inmates running the asylum but at least on the surface the players should be willing to buy into Huska.

While what you said is true, you could do the same thing with every successful coach ever.

I just think Huska doesn't have the tools on his roster to find success. So I'm just looking at him to help turn some of these mid-tier prospects into surprises. If he can do that, it'll be a massive success for this organization.

Is it possible Love wanted more money since he is the new hotness right now or was Huska the first choice all along ? That's a big factor for this ownership group to.
