This is such a ridiculous stance. By this logic, no one on CP can ever contemporaneously react to anything ever. No signings, trades, hirings, firings, draft picks, etc. until things have played out.

This may shock you, but it's possible to have well-reasoned opinion and reaction, based off of information, before things play out.

I hope the best for Huska. He may very well succeed. But because of the complete lack of success at the professional level, I don't like this hire. As such, I have a negative reaction.

Wow, sounds like a guy in demand.

Meanwhile we actually had a coach in demand who looks like an up and coming talent in Love, who we might possibly lose now.

Internal hire, been with the organization for years, familiar with the players, management, and city, does his job well, noted good human.

Checks a lot of boxes, and the hire defines meritocracy. Interested to see how the staff rounds out.

Let's go.

Mitch Love. /end

NHL track record wasn't a requirement for many, but a winning track record at other levels was highly preferred

It is interesting to look at this last era of Flames hockey come to an unofficial "close", but then to see the organization more or less march on as status-quo as possible.

Attempted to retain Treliving.

Maloney: Assistant General Manager -> President of Hockey Operations
Conroy: Assistant General Manager -> General Manager
Pascall: Assistant General Manager -> Promoted to VP and Assistant General Manager
Snow: Assistant General Manager - > Promoted to VP and Assistant General Manager
Huska: Assistant Coach -> Head Coach

I think without the love-fest we all have for Conroy (and rightfully so?), this would all be a much harder off-season to swallow considering this organizations lack of success and then doubling...tripling...quadrupling...quintupling down on what they've already been doing.

Bean certainly wasn't lying when he said they (CSEC?) believed they were a top team. They've shown pretty much zero move towards change, and seem to more or less be hanging everything on Darryl (rightfully or wrongfully...who knows)

The only answer was to kidnap Cooper or someone like that.

I think I will give him a chance. Life is too short to be as whiny as some of you.

The global search to make the Flames the premier organization of the sport and bring major championships and respectability to the city ends with promoting people whom have been part of the organization for years?? Wild times

If only bottom feeding corporate companies promoted their COO's, CFO's, SR VP's and if poor countries promoted their VP's, Deputy PM's and more than they would be powerhouses too. Titans of business, politics and sports!

Seems logical to me 100%

Let's bring in the new era of a decade of dominance come Oct.

Go Flames Go

I'd have liked to see Love, based on I dunno what.

But it strikes me that Sutter was not a horrible coach - he had lots of good attributes, lots of good strategy, butr also plenty of flaws. Maybe, just maybe, a guy who watched closely can take from what Suuter did right and add what he didn't.

Interested in how they approach powerplay in particular.

Absolutely nothing points to this guy being on the verge of breaking out as an NHL bench boss.

Hopefully we're dead wrong about the initial optics and the Flames brass saw some kind of magic when this dude opened his mouth.

At a loss for reasons. Maybe he was willing to take the smallest paycheque.

They could have had me for less but they didn't call.

I'm upset for reasons I can't stand behind and wanted a different coach for reasons I'm not qualified to have.

Excited to give Huska a chance!

Not necessarily. There were other HC spots open this offseason and I don't recall any news about teams asking to interview him.

Huska was a guest on the Glass and Out podcast a few weeks ago. I'll definitely give it a listen...

I do not mind Huska as a HC, we really don't have much to judge him on, but if this means that Love will be gone from the organization then it's a mistake imo. If one of Huska or Love would have left, I would have preferred to keep Love
