No issues? They had a superstar player shortlist their team on short notice and started putting a package together to get him over the other teams. That's a far, far cry from "no issues trading". C'mon.

Haha. Yep. Now that gets his hands on Toronto. I really couldn't be happier for Treliving and Toronto.

So because a player gets traded they are not high profile? Remember when that Gretzky guy got traded? Me neither, just an average player that guy. Jack Eichel? Never heard of him. Who in the hell is Joe Thornton?? I could do this all day.

Huberdeau would probably welcome a trade. He got his money and would probably be going to a better situation. The only team in the league that might have poor reputation with trading players is Vegas and it doesn't seem to be hindering them. Sorry I'm not buying the idea. Teams choose to go in different directions all the time and guys get moved. Its the business.

The only trade I see to ditch Huberdeau and his giant contract would be like a "one for one" with Jamie Benn

Ok, first off Calgary is not Vegas, everyone wants to play in Vegas. Second, when did Vegas give a guy a huge money deal with a NMC and then deal him right before it kicked in? The optics to that are terrible. Third, I think Huberdeau absolutely wants to be here. I know you like to pedal the Calgary Flames are a pile of crap but they really are not.

You can’t compare Calgary to Vegas that is simply laughable. Vegas is easily the most desired market in the West and likely second to only the Rangers league wide. Warm climate, vibrant city, great tax situation, rabid fans, great building/facilities. Calgary is among the bottom tier markets in the league.
I don’t think Huberdeau would welcome a change considering all the changes the Flames have made this offseason that will make this situation better for him. I think he wants to make it right here and not go play in any market we could dump him on

I wonder if New Jersey would look at something around a Timo Meier for Noah Hanifin swap.
Meier didn't really work out there, and they could probably really use a d-man with Severson and Graves both potentially leaving.

NJD have a decent top three in Hamilton, Marino, and Seigenthaler, and they have two of the best D prospects in the game (Hughes and Nemec) poised to make the team. I don’t see them wanting to bring in another 7+ mil guy. The reason they let Severson walk in the first place is they feel they have a good emerging D without him.

After Columbus’ recent move with Severson, all more of a reason to acquire Bean. Trade Hanifin and acquire Bean, a Calgary native and one that can be extended for 5-6 years for 3.5-4m. I think he can provide similar if not better offense for us. He did good with the minutes he had in Columbus production wise.
I don’t think it would cost more than a 3rd and maybe a prospect to get him. Columbus has a log jam on D now.

Maybe alone in this but... it's bonkers to me that people are clamoring to ship Huberdeau out after one bad year on a brand new team in a completely different system with a coach that (it seems universally agreed upon) was a huge part of the problem.

I think it was more they didn't want to invest more money in another RH dman after Severson fell behind Hamilton and Marino on the depth chart.
As of right now:
Siegenthaler - Hamilton
???? - Marino
Hughes - Nemec
Smith - Bahl
If they are looking to be a contender it does seem like they could use a top 4 LH dman. Unless you want to put a lot of pressure on L. Hughes and Nemec

With Meier seemingly wanted huge bucks, I would expect that would be a one year stop gap for Calgary.
Assuming we move Hanifin, he needs to be moved for someone with more control.

If I am not mistaken Jake Bean is John Bean’s son?

I like this idea. Hanifin should get you some very good assets and Bean should be cheap as Columbus likely just wants to ditch his $2.333 mil.
Columbus also could be intersted in a center. Backlund for Bean?

I'd do it. Backlund could probably fetch a 1st or 2nd + prospect, but this would put Hanifin on the market and allow us to get a better return while also saving cap space.

Columbus would do it for sure as Backlund would be a nice add for them. I bet we could get a pick in the deal too.
We save cap space and trade Hanifin for some nice assets.

Hughes looked really good in his brief trial at the end of the season and playoffs (4pt in 5 games). I’ve seen him ranked as the best drafted prospect in the world. The second-pairing LD position is likely there for the taking.
