Not sure what you do, but if it comes with a better sounding job title you might be able to use that to make a move to a different employer at a higher pay/responsibility level. Basically converting the 'paper' promotion to a real promotion by switching.

Unless you think your current employer would put a hit on you for leaving...

So happy the city is adding more traffic lights to 90th Ave. I thought they might be a pedestrian crossing, but no such luck. I’m sure it will be completely mistimed with the other lights and people can sit while nothing happens.

The traffic design in this city is awful.

Eh, I think it's pretty decent vs many major cities I've been to. I do think there are things we can tweak and optimize though like timing and coordination in certain intersections and increased speeds on certain roads. I think a worse issue in Calgary are people violating traffic rules to let others violate traffic rules (ie: Jaywalking, illegal turns etc.).

The flashing green light in Vancouver for instance is far worse of an awful traffic design IMO. What's wrong with normal pedestrian crossing lights?

Where? I can't think of a spot that would need them?

Maybe two spots. One is 90th and an entrance into Bayview/Apartment Buildings (Bayridge Drive I think) and the other is west along 90th and South Glenmore Park (I can't remember that intersection.

The Bayview Entrance/Apartments should've been a pedestrian crossing for sure. I have no idea why it wasn't sooner. But this is just another set of lights for me run when it's inevitably timed poorly and there's no one else there anyway. Great use of resources though.

Count your blessings that they’re not turning it into a traffic circle

WRGMG is how easy traffic circles to navigate, yet people cannot figure them out.

What are people doing? I don’t think I have witnessed any struggling as circles.

I get a little high off properly signalling in traffic circles. I feel like a professional driver.

Drivers in this city are spoiled brats who have no idea how good they've got it. It's very easy and quick to get around by car.

Hard disagree with you w.r.t. Vancouver's flashing greens vs. our pedestrian crossing lights. Those amber lights are easy to miss and drivers often ignore them. Or worse yet: pedestrians will stroll out into the roadway without pushing the button. They don't have to push the button and actuate the lights to have the right-of-way: the lights are just a courtesy to let the drivers know they want to cross. Whereas Vancouver's signalized intersections give the drivers a heads-up that "Hey, be careful here, you have the right-of-way but at any moment a pedestrian can hit the button and change it red," and the pedestrians don't have the right-of-way to cross until the vehicles get a red light and the pedestrian signal has changed from a "don't walk" to "walk".

IMO I find signaling in traffic circles almost entirely useless.

Yes, it would be nice if people signaled when they were at their chosen exit, but given the amount of people that keep their signal on for the entire circle, it's completely unreliable for somebody on the outside to depend on the person signaling to actually take the next exit.

Which is exactly what can happen at any other traffic signal. What a purposeless idea that as far as I know hasn't been adopted anywhere else.

What annoys me more is the poor design of our traffic circles.

The one at Highfield seems like it was sketched out at the Civic Engineer's Christmas party because only someone drunk out of their minds would design that.

And the one at 24th and Glenmore? Hm...where do I start? Would you say that stretch of road is pretty close to the Industrial area? I would. So why would you design a traffic circle that is too small for large trucks and accordion buses to make the turn and stay in their lane?

That is some top-shelf bull###t.

As a Civil engineer by education who took traffic engineering courses, all traffic engineers should be stripped of their P.Eng. Absolute joke it isn't a two year diploma from SAIT or something.
