Default The Sopranos Finale: Episode 3

I forgot to throw this up, with all the game 6 loss hoopla. This episode was alright for me, a little slow. Coming to the forefront is Tony's lack of trust on his crew. First Chris, now Paulie. Makes you wonder how this shooting from 1982 came up for the feds though? If Paulie would have admitted he was the one who told Johnny Sack about the ass joke, he would have been dead on the spot. I think Tony has changed his mind on clipping Paulie for now. I remember a couple of years back Tony saying in the end friends will let you down, family is all you can trust, so maybe he turns to the inept A.J. for the other families business. Uncle Junior is finished, it looks like he has given up on hope.

This was the weakest of the new season, but still pretty decent.

I think thats it for Uncle Junior... I think they might mention in passing that he died, but I think that was his swansong.

Part of Tony's re-evaluation of life seems to be re-evaluating his cronies. But I thought it was already established that he didn't trust anyone anyway. Paulie definitely got lucky, but killing him without any actual cause would have been a big negative on the show. Would defeat the purpose of having lovable villains.

Its pretty apparent that something is gonna snap... the question is whether or not its huge or not.

Oh, I also loved some of the nods to Godfather in this episode.

I really hated this episode. The whole time they were out on the boat, I kept thinking "as IF he is going to kill Paulie!" Just can't see it happening.

Don't shots to the head have something to do with not being able to have an open-casket funeral? A final insult to the deceased persons family? I'm just guessing here, don't take my word for it.

I was under the impression it meant that someone`s eyes were bigger than their stomach. Its also a form of insult so that someone can`t have an open casket funeral. (unless they want to wear sunglasses).

I hope they don't... his jokes are hilarious! And he had maybe 6 or 7 in the most recent episode!

I hope they dont Kill Paulie either, I was laughing when Paulie was packing for Maimi and had like 10 pairs of the exact same white shoes!

Or in episode 2 when everyone is watching Christophers movie, and all you hear is Paulie on the phone "put it in the trunk" that was funny.

I agree with you about Tony testing Paulie there and I think that was the major focus of the entire episode.

It started from Beansy telling Tony that Paulie was a "stand-up guy", to which Tony responded, "but has he ever been tested?" Throw in the flashback of them clipping the rat on the boat and Tony was dead set on testing Paulie because they both know he was the one who told Johnny Sac about the Ginny joke. Paulie was put under pressure there, but stood his ground and didn't come out.

I think right then and there, Tony has decided that although Paulie can get very annoying with his constant yapping, he's safe... he capped it off near the end talking to Carmela as well when he said it was people like Paulie who allowed them to do the business they do.

I'm still trying to figure out what the whole thing with the Asian guy and Junior was trying to say... obviously, the Asian guy was disappointed at how pathetic he thought Junior had become... when he had admired him so much.

I think that was Juniour's swan song. His sad farewell. He has given up and will probably quietly die before the series wraps up.

In one of the first two seasons, Salvotore Bumpensero (site won't let you type his nickname) tells some one that in The God Father. They shot Moe Green in the eye because it had gotten bigger than his stomach. Apparantly Phil didn't care for the boss taking a piece of his Veal Marsala off of his plate.

All in all I thought it was an excellent episode. Tony wacking Paulie would have been a little extreme. He allready has people talking about Ralph disappearing over a horse.

I think it ties into what Phil was talking about last episode -- about how he was tired of being push around and not taking a stand, mostly in relation to not being denied justice for his brother's death. I think at that point he had already made up his mind he wanted to be boss. The current boss taking his food probably just solidified everything in his mind, or, at the very least, was just the straw that broke the camel's back.
