Disappointed that one of the most defence-desperate teams is out as a partner for a potential Hanifin deal.
Wonder if this is the first step in a full-on rebuild for the Flyers. Ellis looks like he’s done, and that defence was already one of the worst in the NHL.
Eh. Getting Provorov at 70% for a late 1st is better than getting Hanifin
I get that...but man, looking at Provorov to be part of that? Eeeesh.
Acquiring players from a losing culture to help establish a winning culture in a losing culture?
Two losings doesn't make one winnings...or something
This strikes me as a deal not dissimilar to Philly acquiring Ristolainen. It just doesn't notably change the fate of the team in my eyes.
I think those are fair concerns, but it's a fine line to walk.
Gaudreau, Laine, Johnson, Carlsson (presumably), Marchenko to build around up front
Werenski, Provorov, Jiricek and Boqvist to build around on the back
I think they are primed to get better in a hurry

Lindholm for 3OA and hanifin for nylander are still there to be had!
IMO, keep dreaming. In a big draft you’re not dealing the 3OA on a rebuilding team far away from competing for a guy potentially on his last contract. That’s nothing to say if lindholm’s ability but simply his age. Hanifin for Nylander is entirely possible based on the fit.

Not really that serious… just playing off of the discussions that have been in here and the media…

Sadly, this puts the 3rd OA trade to rest imo. They are probably rolling with drafting a center at the draft. Won't be shocked if Carlsson or Smith are in a Blue Jackets Jersey in a few weeks. And yes, this is one less spot for Hanifin to be traded.
I've been really hoping for Lindholm for 3OA but I think this trade actually decreases the chances of that happening. No way Columbus leaves with no 1sts in this draft.

In the end, Provorov would get his fourth Barry Ashbee Trophy (given to the team’s best defenseman) but it was a hollow honor given the quality of his competition and his poor end-of-season results. Provorov finished with just 27 points, his lowest point-per-game rate since 2018-19. His minus-17 was second-worst on the defense — to DeAngelo, who was also the only Flyers defenseman to perform worse by xG rates. And no Philadelphia blueliner ended up with a worse on-ice goal differential at five-on-five: 76 goals against and 56 for.

you really think one okay dman has solved all their problems?

If it's Smith he'll put one on, but he won't play in one next season.
