This is how you ruin the sport.

Handing out penalties for a hit being too big, especially in the cup finals, is blasphemous.

Magnitude doesn't always require a response by the stripes. Just use your eyeballs and know the rulebook.

Let's not go by the Oilers book of officiating.

Tkachuk hit looked perfectly clean to me. What did Barbashev do to get a misconduct? We don't know who said what.
This series is very entertaining so far.

I think Tkachuk got 10 because he went back into the scrum after he was pulled out and grabbed Pietrangelo from behind.

Honestly this is the Flames Playoff Tkachuk a bit...but snakebit offensively so starts to try to do too much physically and takes himself out of the game a bit because of it
 |
We'll see how it plays out from here.

That sort of hit can have an impact on games/series. I don't think Tkachuk did anything as impactful as THAT hit while he struggled here in the playoffs.

I don't envision some sort of Cory Sarich-hit rebound here tonight, but it was Tkachuk trying to push back.

All that said...so far this series looks painful for the Panthers. Don't seem to be able to keep up/execute.

Again, Gudas was hit with a similar hit and could have easily been called a hit to the head...you know, there's a rule for that regardless of intent. No penalty called at all, play on.

Okay, no problem. So Tkachuk does the same thing, get swarmed by 3 guys and defends himself and his teammates.

Referees: "10 minute misconduct for....things."

It's a ridiculous double standard in this series based on reputation. It sucks.

Tkachuk got 10 minutes misconduct for being Tkachuk. His reputation doesn't change just because he got traded to another team.

...seeing the replays of Eichel going off, I just feel bad for him. It's a clean hit, it's just that it's Eichel and with his history you can see that guy just looks concerned about his neck.

The panel completely ignoring how the refs called that play is par for the course.
 Garbage coverage in Canada continues.

Yeah I think him shaking his head it's more his neck. Maybe whiplash as well?
Just a strange play with him looking like he dove into the hit.

Bang on. He needs to just play and score. Forget the extra garbage, you're not winning anything going overboard with that stuff.

It was always going to be a risk for him considering his surgery. It could have easily happened on a toe pick and going head first into the boards without anybody touching him.

It's purely accidental, and there was no intent from Tkachuk other than to lay a solid clean hit, but it will probably get spun some other way to paint him as a villain.

I actually hope Eichel returns just to squash that bull#### narrative.

Barbashev also got 10. Instead of assuming they gave him 10 for the no reason perhaps something happened in the scrum with Barbashev.

I don’t know that Tkachuk got penalized at all for the hit, which looked clean (and there was no arm up at that hit). There were two 2+10m calls out of that and I suspect they were for the same thing - something in the fracas.
I dunno what Bieksa is talking about - there was no way for Eichel to stand up into that hit.

Eichel was all set for the hit…and toe picked himself.
