He did (at least Im pretty sure lol) . I think he's the only one to flat out say Gallant wasn't happening but I believe it. $8m owed to Sutter likely means a first time coach is hired IMO

He did, which is kind of weird though. Someone else posted that when a fired coach goes to another team, the old team still makes up the remainder of the salary if the new team pays less. So if the Flames paid Gallant $1.5 million per year, then the Rangers would still pay $2 million per year to him over the next 2 years.
I guess it could be that 3rd year that is the snag, where his salary would spike for the Flames. Or maybe he is asking for a substantial raise over the $3.5 million x 2 that the Ranger still owe him.

He had Conroy on his podcast I think he might have sources in the Flames again.

Wonder what the timetable is for naming the head coach. Can’t remember if the league has a mandate for not making big announcements during the stanley cup final. I know some football leagues do.
Would probably help in getting some extensions signed I would guess. Would also be a good idea to have the head coach involved in the draft process.

I think they don't want big announcements being made on game day, but there are enough off days, that shouldn't be a problem.
I forget who, but one of the insiders said the plan is for the Flames to get down to a final list this week and a decision soon after. My prediction is (depending on how the series goes), we'll get an announcement the week of June 12. Game 5 is scheduled for the 13th and Game 6 for the 16th.
I say: - If the series is tied 2-2 after 4, Flames coach introduced on June 12, the day before Game 5. No distraction since there will be a Game 6 no matter what.
- If the series is 3-1 after 4, Flames coach is introduced on the 14th or 15th... If the series ends on the 13th, announcement on the 15th. If Game 6 is required, announcement on the 14th.
- If the series is a sweep, announcement any day the week of the 12th.

Barring a big name hire a la Quenville, I’m not sure how much hype announcing a new Flames coach takes away from the series. I see your point though.

In that case, please sweep the Panthers, Knights. I want to hear as soon as possible.

"Announce" is far different from hire and start work.
My guess is that the new coach will be working for a few days in advance of it being announced, given the league preference for these things not to have news announced and overshadow the SCF.

Gallant's fourth year with the Rangers was a team option so he will only be owed next year, that's why he likely won't take $1.5 for three years say even if he's getting $3.5 next year.

A few reports including Friedman that the Flames are down to 4 candidates.
Friedman on the Marek show this morning suggested the Flames aren't after anyone with a lot of experience (which is to say they aren't going after a Gallant, etc IMO) and that they want someone who is probably a first timer, maybe with a bit of experience.
So basically my bet is the 4 are Huska, Love, Vincent & Savard
My concern is he described Vincent who I've only really started reading about this past week.

Reading about Savard if we are going for a first time coach I'd go with him.
Like it or not the powerplay is a big part of the game now. He seems to get the it and about the offensive side of the game.
I also liked how he talked about playing freely but if you turn it over you bust your ass to back check and make up for it.

NHL on Sirius this morning suggested it was down to Love, Huska, Tanguay, and Muller.
So, I would agree that the 1 other would most likely be Tanguay.

Muller and Vincent can be interchangeable highly disappointing to see them as finalists.
They ran some terrible power plays considering the options they had.

I don't really see how you can go wrong with Mitch Love.
Dude wins at every level, pretty much. Seems like as safe a bet as one of the longstanding other names.

The Calgary Flames are entering the second-round of their head coaching search, with the final four candidates set to be interviewed again this week.
It is believed that former New York Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant and former Vancouver Canucks head coach Travis Green have been under consideration for the job and it’s possible one or both are among the remaining four contenders.
Flames GM Craig Conroy is hoping to secure his club’s new coach in the next two weeks and then shift his primary focus to the NHL Draft.
