If the Oilers get all the dough here, I would rather the Flames not be involved. I am actually surprised the Oilers would want the Flames to be part of it. If the Oilers lose, it will spoil the party for them. Not to mention, having more visiting fans attend. Although, I would not be shocked if the Oilers try to limit out of town purchases.

I believe the nhl pays out to the home team, assume they base it on average home game revenue. And then the nhl keeps all the profit from the event.

It's considered a league event, so all the money goes into the league's pot and is ultimately split 32 ways.
The host team is compensated by the league as if it was a sellout game in their home arena, otherwise, it all goes to the league.
This is how Ken King explained it at a STH event I went to back around the time that the Flames hosted the Heritage Classic at McMahon.

I'm sure the teams get some money/budget for new jerseys, equipment, fancy locker room stuff, new apparel like hats and jackets, etc. Can't imagine the teams would pony up that money themselves out of goodwill.
I think the more compelling question for me is who plays in the Alumni game -- will they bring back the old farts from the 80's or a bunch of no-names from the 2000's and beyond?

Dress Kipper and Iggi for the alumni game and I’d pay 10x more for that then the actual game itself.

I expect guys like Iggy, Regehr, Glencross, and Phaneuf to all be there.
I'll be shocked if Kipper shows up, but it would be spectacular.
Here's my predicted alumni roster from the other thread... Gelinas-Conroy-Iginla
Tanguay-Langkow-Cammalleri
Glencross-Stajan-Kobasew
Lombardi-Yelle-McGrattan
(Bourque)
Phaneuf-Regehr
Warrener-Sarich
Commodore-Engelland
(Ference)
Kipper
McLennan
If Kipper isn't available, Freddie and Noodles in goal.

Kipper will show up only if he can dress as a skater and play wing.

We should ask all players who played for both teams to play for us.
I want Smid, Joseph and Staios on our team. Just as an eff you to the Oilers. Scoreface goes without saying.
In fact, why stop at players that played for both? We should ask a few former Oilers just to see if they’ll play for us out of spite. Ryan Smyth and Chris Pronger would round out our roster nicely.
Also, Commodore is a dbag. I hope they don’t invite him.

Let's not go there with Smyth. He's just gonna cry and be very emotional. It will be awkward. How about Jason Smith, Doug Weight and Mike Comrie? Smith because he was born in Calgary, Weight because he okayed a lot of games for the No goods and Comrie because he hates the team and it would really troll their fans.

Shouldn’t it just be the McDavid Heritage Classic.

Don’t really get the appeal of these games with questionable weather and sight lines for the fans. Also looks cool on TV but the quality of play is below par.
Do like this will be a big enough event to warrant broadcasting on Aussie cable TV and, depending on the start time, I can probably find a bar playing it.

Look forward to next Flames equipment sale to pick up unused HC gear.
That said, really hoping the Flames do a cream colored jersey as we've seen in other HC's as I'd pick one up.
Still think (from the jersey thread) it makes sense to do the hockey Stampeders vs Edmonton Bombers from the Allan Cup in the old timey days.

It's a bigger McMahon, just as bare bones for amenities with worse ingress and egress. Difference is has a second deck along with being a huge distance away from the playing surface becuase of the original track, even if your on the 55yd line/centre ice...T&P and bring binoculars if you have tickets in the end zones.

I assume it will be set up similar to 2003, with temporary bleachers at the end of the rink and no end zone seating.

You want flames coming off the top or something? These logos are always designed around the host city. There’s nothing wrong with it.
