Not sure Savard has earned anything over other candidates like Love or Huska for the head coaching job. AFAIK, every other known candidate has cut their teeth at least the AHL level. Not that it means much, guys like Tourniguay jumped straight up from Jr.
I don't know, I'd probably put Savard down the list. Probably wouldn't make the 2nd interview stage.

i don't think I like the Flames turning down Gallant over $. If we was the best person for the job but they didn't want to pay...A good coach is worth the money if if gets us at least 2 playoff home games. Oh well it is what it is

Any other year, with a clean slate, not paying money for a top coach would be infuriating. As it has been.
This year, with $8M on the books for Sutter, and several million paid out to other coaches let go before the end of their deals, its completely understandable that the Flames aren't willing to pay top dollar for a coach. Especially when they have one in house that may be coveted by other teams.
Just imagine if the Flames paid Gallant $3M a year for 2 years. With Sutter's money still on the books.
They'd be paying $14M for coaching over the next 2 years. That's ridiculous.
Only thing I will say about rookie coaches is that you have to live with the bumps and bruises that come along with them. Unless the first year is a total disaster like in Columbus, I would consider it a grace period for the coach and not judge him until the second year.

People were even questioning Bednar in Colorado after that disaster of a season they had where they ended up picking Makar at the draft. Give Love a chance.

The best person for the job is the one who provides both on-ice results and a successful and stable environment for veterans and young players.
Not a short-term coach brought into whip the team into shape only to lose the room again like Darryl Sutter.

Exactly. Also Brunette in Florida although I know the narrative is only how great he was but in reality, he was totally lost in the playoffs and even said so himself. There will be growing pains almost guaranteed and as long as people accept it it's fine.

Latest from 32 Thoughts indicates that the Flames will interview Pascal Vincent, current assistant coach with Columbus:
Quote:
10. Pascal Vincent, waiting on Columbus, will apparently interview in Calgary. I’d expect the Flames to cut down their coaching candidate list next week.
Wonder if the "candidate list" is mediocre to give the impression they're doing their due diligence before promoting Love. Seems like they did that with the GM search, and so did Toronto before they hired Tre. No chance Toronto was seriously considering Bergevin and Chiarelli

I think the fact that they're doing the thorough coaching search is a big step for the Flames in finding the right person for the job. Something Treliving should have done from the beginning. We look at all the shortcomings. If we had proper coaching place from the beginning we might not be in the situation we are in now. This has to be considered a positive sign for the organization that they're going to do things a little differently take a bit more time to make the right decisions. It also gives me a little bit of hope that they're going to attack this thing with a plan. It's not going to be just about plugging holes but an actual strategy to make the team stronger and to achieve better goals. Whoever they pick i'm just happy they're taking the time to do the extensive interviews. They didn't even try and snatch anybody up before anybody else did.

To be fair his first hire the did a search but unfortunately we ended up with Glen 😞
To finally bridge the gap with NHL-ready players from the AHL for "youth injection", it makes the most sense to roll with the coach that I think will bridge that gap the best. Conroy preached having roster spots for the youngsters in the bottom 6. Love is the ideal fit to slot the kids where they will have the best effect. I think this is Love's job to lose. I hope I'm right.
Any chance we could pluck this sweaty bastard from the LA Clippers? Every game would be mad hype. (For those who don't know: Steve Ballmer, Former Microsoft CEO, and Owner of the LA Clippers.)

Two people close to the organisation told me that Gallant could be the front-runner. (Or at least it looks that way to them.)

If true, gross. More of the same band-aid solutions.
I agree. What was the point of firing Sutter? Also tough but more successful.
