According to your logic, you should never talk about the Calgary Flames on calgarypuck if you never played in the NHL. Or, you should never talk about politics unless you have a degree in Political Science.
|
calgarypuck is a collection of fans not NHL players.
i can talk politics all i want as an observer, but i would never write a political paper and expect to be taking seriously without a degree.
Why does it matter? Because when someone speaks out against what is perceived as the majority consensus, they get attacked every which way from sunday - even though they might be an actual scientist.....they get attacked because they speak out, not necessarily because they are wrong - christ that has been human nature for ever -
those same people worship Gore - a politician OR Suzuki the genecists. it could be called a double standard.

haha It was only attending high school in smalltown Idaho that really got to me. Just a lot of uninteresting, ignorant people. Hard to find people that I actually enjoyed talking to. I actually like the United States as a whole and smalltown Idaho is definitely not indicative of it.

Okay so we can't listen to politicians or a celebrated scientist with a PhD.
Whos' word would you accept or at least deem legitimate?

I'm glad Stelmach told him to worry about his own country first.
I mean, isn't it kind of ironic that he comes to Alberta preaching about our oil, and what we do with it...when what we ACTUALLY do with it, is sell it to Al Gore.
I take his message in the same manner I take every message from a politician.

I seriously doubt many people are taking him at his 'word.'
I think he has taken his name, and brought light to an issue that people like Suzuki couldn't.
Sure it might be extreme in a certain way, but don't you think Al Gore has created discussion on global warming?
Far as I'm concerned, it is still up in the air whether or not humans are the sole cause of global warming.
The earth has gone through climate change before...

That's true. Does it mean he's wrong? Right? Somewhere in the middle?

That's apples and oranges.
First Hockey is not important, climate change is.
Second, understanding global warming, its effects and causes is kind of hard, relatively speaking hockey is simple.
There is significant impact to society as we develop strategies for managing global warming. There is no impact to society when everyone with no hockey experience informs us that our HC must be fired.
I don't understand global warming as well as others, but I do know that the topic is ripe for a pied piper to show up and lead people whereever he/she feels. Regardless of their technical background ... just need a little charisma.

I've heard a couple times that surface temperatures on Mars have gone up at a simiar rate. I haven't looked around that much but has anyone seen research on this?

Stelmach was an absolute idiot, not inlike the uninteresting, ignorant people being referred to from ID in this thread.
I spoke to three different people who actually went to listen to him. And he wasn't condemning oil, or Alberta for that matter, just creating dialogue. I'm not sure Al Gore is the best resouce of information on cause and effect of global warming but for our premier to stick his nose in like a ignorant buck tooth loud mouth was uncalled for and embarrassing. I've never voted liberal in my life, but Eddie is working hard at changing that.

You may as well start voting liberal cause you sure talk like one when you hear something you don't like. What's embarrassing is your response and attack of the Premier.
The USA should take responsibility for their actions, they rarely do and have their hands in just about everything that goes wrong in this world.
Canada would reduce emissions without having to do a single thing, if the US would do something in their own country.

Who says USA is or isn't taking action. Gore isn't blaming anyone. It's not blame, it's identifying a problem, that we may or may not have created, and we may or may not be able to solve, who knows, but it is good dialogue.
Again has NOTHING do to with Alberta in particular, nothing to do with the US, and nothing to do with blame.
BTW your last sentance could not make any less sense.
Just like you, Ed completely misunderstands the point of his speach in Calgary.

I know the point of his speech, charge 160 bucks a ticket and make some money. My last sentence makes perfect sense - think about it

OK, if that was his point, what does Ed barking about blaming the US have to do with anything? Gore isn't blaming Alberta, Ed just sounds ignorant. But way to change arguements on the fly.
I think I understand the point, Cdn produciton is a f(x) of US demand, but the statement is flat out wrong. Americans can do something, Canadadians can do things, Chinesse can do things etc...
