That's kinda what I'm getting at. Like, I get the rule itself is ridiculous and should be rethought at some level, but just the decision to give away home ice for all possible elimination games in a series (against the #2 seed, no less)... It's possible I'm being super unfair for sure, and I accept that, but I'm still sceptical.

One quick thing to add: I understand the economics behind going with two guaranteed home games vs a possibility of only one. I don't know that a coach would use that thinking to make the decision, so it's possible it really did come down from above and Love is just being a stand-up guy by saying it was his decision.
If that's actually the case, then I would recind my previous comments and would support him wholeheartedly - not just because of finding out he didn't actually make that decision, but also because of his willingness to stand in the line of fire over it.

How hilarious would a Head Coach Marc Savard and Assoc. Coach Greg Gilbert scenario be though?
...or maybe not that hilarious, as it were.

If you are telling the guys in the room that you want games 3-5 at home you are telling them that you don't believe that you can finish the series in 3.
I think that to your team and showing the guys in the room utter confidence you have to go the first two at home because you are telling the players that you believe in them and that they are going to win both games at home and finish in 3.
In theory if you have to finish an elimination game on the road it should be easier because you should have less pressure on you to perform compared to the other team who has to entertain its home crowd.

Ok, pick the option that gives you the possibility of getting 3, rather then 2 tops.

You’re also giving 0 respect to your opponent if you think you’re gonna waltz through the playoffs undefeated.

I am starting to get excited about the idea of Marc Savard now as well.
We would be the fittest team in the league with him.

Rather be confident in my team than cowardly towards the other team.

You know that the minute any new coach has a hard time that Seravalli report about Gallant is going to make its way around here as the ownership is too cheap to pay for a coach (leaving aside they just paid for a coach to go away).

Gallant would be fired a few months into his 3rd season anyways.

Or the possibility of getting 1, rather than 2 minimum? It's not as clear cut as it seems, given that very few care who wins in a development league, and the fact that money matters.

|
From an article published a few weeks ago, it doesn't sound like Savard is interested in being an assistant. https://windsorstar.com/sports/spitf...re-nhl-options
Quote:
In his first season with the Spitfires, Savard guided the club to a Western Conference title and to within a game of an OHL title a year ago.
After the season, Savard was contacted by several NHL teams and rumours had him connected to several clubs. In the end, the only options offered to him were as an assistant coach at the NHL level and he opted to return to Windsor.
“I don’t want to really fall into that assistant coaching category, unless it makes total sense to me and there’s going to be (a future head coaching) opportunity,” Savard said. “NHL level, I’m not really into the AHL (American Hockey League) level. I’d rather come back here. This is a great organization and I love working here.”
Despite a first-round upset this season, Savard did guide the team to the top of the Western Conference standings again. He boasts an 88-35-8-5 regular-season record in two seasons with the Spitfires, which is a .695 winning percentage.
Not surprising, he’s already drawing interest from teams with the NHL season not yet wrapped up.
“I’ve been getting talked to a lot already, I won’t lie,” Savard said. “There’s some stuff in the fire right now, but, again, I want to be a head coach.”
