A week before the election the city cancels Canada Day fireworks for cultural reasons then gets severe backlash including many who could be undecided voters. A few days later 10 councillors reverse this decision with 4 or 5 noticeable absences. Definitely had an impact based on how close it was to the election. A few weeks earlier probably not.

Lowest in Canada doesn’t help globally.

Lol, my god if people actually cast their votes solely on the basis of enabling grifting billionaires.

The mental gymnastics to connect that to the provincial election and specifically the NDP is beyond ridiculous.

I’m just amazed the issue isn’t referred to as firewokes.

I’m 50/50 on if it ever goes ahead in Calgary anyway. It’s an easy cut after they pass the No deficit law and no new taxes without referendum law and oil prices are below expected.

There's a not insignificant part of me that reluctantly wants the arena deal cancelled so I can witness Eric Francis' head cave in.

The one thing Trump-worshipping conservatives never seem to understand.

I want it canceled because that's the fiscally responsible thing to do. Francis melting down would be a bonus though.

Instead of a council of the defeated why not use… I dunno…those who were actually elected to represent the citizens. Then if you want different points of view, talk to city council.

I think this is a stupid idea.

I don't want them to leave but I don't support corporate welfare. Murray can pay for his own damn arena.

If this deal falls through Flames are a good as gone. Reality. I'm with you don't think tax payers should be on the hook for so much but it's the best deal we're going to get.

Long term it's still money well spent.

Shame we don't think of the same for doctors.

DownWithFlames as a username almost sounds more supportive of the team than DownInFlames does
