we had a men's hockey game a number of years ago where there was a wife that was cheering for our opposition in the stands and she was just going on and on and on.
eventually the ref had enough so he waited until 'her team' had a scoring chance and blew the play dead. then loud enough so you could hear it on the next rink belted out while pointing at her, "YOU! GET OUT NOW!"
she starts yelling back at him so he skates towards the other team's bench and belts out, "who wants to claim her?!?! she's got 30 seconds to be gone or you're getting a penalty!"
her husband jumped up and ran towards the stands yelling at her to shut up and leave

it was one of the funniest things to see... but also pretty pathetic that she got so worked up about a men's beer league game. the thing is, win or lose it doesn't matter... everyone makes the playoffs! ha!

Lol. Yelling at the referee in some rec league? Just let him go have fun playing hockey with his friends. I'd be sitting at home enjoying an adult beverage and reading a book or something.

Disclosure: I'd rather the scraping than the open mouth/mouth noise (which drive me about as insane as the spoon scrapers do for you)

I'm not even sure if I paid my wife to come "watch" me play hockey she would. Having anybody get riled up over beer league is hilariously pathetic (on their part).

Shouldn’t play hockey be in quotation marks too?

Just late last summer, in our O35 league two guys attacked a ref. Their team has to pay a discipline bond, and I want to say the idiots were suspended for 2 years (vs permanently) (MillerTime?) CUSA has huge attrition in referees, and they're working on empowering them further and focusing on zero tolerance.

After that I changed my ways. I was a first year coach and I was taking it way too seriously, but I became very respectful of refs for the next 8 years of my coaching tenure. They're doing a hard job, and if you want good referees in the future then you cant let young refs quit because of BS.

And they're going to suck sometimes, you just gotta roll with it. This isnt the NHL or anything.

But the second they step off the 'Area of Play' they are back to being people.

I was managing a midget lacrosse team a few years ago and our coach said something so offensive to a female ref at the end of the game he was banned from coaching for years. I scrambled all season to find fill in coaches.

I have to say, of my two boys who play the one who also reffed is way more tolerant of refs at all levels.

Where did this new "they will run it back next year" phrase come from in the context of bringing back the same/similar roster and taking another shot next season?

The only thing I can think of is the football play (running back a kick) but that really doesn't track, since the alternative to running it back is the fair catch or taking a knee. Should the hockey team take a knee or wave for a fair catch?

A poorly shucked oyster drives me crazy. You're paying sometimes $4.00 a piece for these little guys and the shucker can't even properly shuck it. Drives me bananas.

Brutal, fat old guys fighting a Ref, I hope Ref exploded both criminal charges & Civil Action .

The flip side, is that Officials should be open to polite constructive feedback, most are not.

The pendulum has swung to far

I disagree in that most officials are not open to polite constructive feedback.

I have played up for 2 different teams, and played 4 games of my own. I've chatted with 5 of the referees afterwards. Amongst those 5, we chatted about discourse, and that I'd be doing a CUSA ref evaluation (we get Fair Play points, which will = $$). Agreed in being polite, and have shared a constructive criticisms with the lot. The 6th being the exception in that, I don't think approaching and discussing would've ben productive.

One of my rec leagues (I can't remember what it's called off the top of my head, I just show up) gave the best 'reviewed' team a full set of home or away jerseys after the winter season. Criteria was you get a rating by each team in your division and also by the refs for your 'behavior' and also how few PIMs you had, and my team won so that's kinda neat.

Crunching a piece of shell or sand totally ruins the rest of the appetite for me, that feeling is so horrible. They definitely are not worth the risk, guess I should just swallow.

If it's really distasteful, you can also spit.

I read this post in the voice of JFK from Clone High and it just makes it funnier.
