When I vote, it's sadly for the party who I believe will do the least damage. It would be such a breath of fresh air to vote for a Premier because I feel excited about their vision.

They should put in a law that does not allow attack adds. It would be so nice to hear commercials talking about their platforms and visions as opposed to them bashing the other party.
I couldn't go a car ride listening to the radio and not hearing at least 2 attack adds in a 30 minute commute. I actually had to go looking for what both parties were promising.

Why aren't we pushing for this to be called the 'Fire District'? so we can continue to compete with the no-goods?

When is the official ground breaking ceremony?
I am flying through YYC in August heading to Vancouver Island for a week and same thing on the way back to Colorado, and I am so excited as this has been a long time coming.

I came across this recent editorial in FlameNation by Ryan Pike.
https://flamesnation.ca/news/how-doe...l-market-deals
How does the proposed Calgary arena deal compare to other small market deals?
Ottawa: 0% from public funds, but it's more complicated.
Winnipeg: 30% from public funds.
Buffalo: 43.1% from public funds.
Carolina: 48% from public funds (less straight forward though).
Calgary's proposed deal: 61% from public funds.
Edmonton: 72.6% from public funds.
San Jose: 81.5% from public funds.
Nashville: 100% of the construction costs covered by public funds.

It's like I said in off topic, voting is like trying to decide which pile of turd smells less horrible.

CP is amazing. Except when folks on here think other members actually give a #### about their view on politics.
Tough to keep the arena separate from politics. But would be nice to hear pros/cons of just the arena.

Pros: more bathrooms, bigger concourses, better food
Cons: everything will be 3 times the price.
And done. That’s the whole list and discussion. The money and politics is infinitely more relevant and interesting to discuss. There’s nothing about the actual arena experience that is really up for debate. At least not until the new renderings come out and people flip #### again.

I've made no secret about my views on the political/funding side; but taking that out, new arenas usually mean more expensive season tickets and food/beverages. That's a big con for me.
I also don't find the new concourses or bathrooms actually make a huge dent in terms of crowds. It's almost impossible when there are 20,000 people in there all at once.
However, viewing angles are usually better; seats are usually comfier; there are typically some better food/drink options or locations.
The idea of providing more "entertainment" in an sporting venue besides the game itself is a silly concept that i will never truly understand. Unless I'm going to a game on company dime, i'm actually there to watch the game

Presumably better player facilities, which makes a difference.

It will all be moot in the not too distant future if a new arena isn't built anyway. Higher prices, lower prices, doesn't matter. There will be no prices.

Unless 100% of the funding is coming from the Billionaire Owners, politics will come into it. From a purely functional perspective there is nothing wrong with the 'Dome. It has ice, it holds people, it has pee facilities, food and booze. Function fulfilled from public perspective.
Crappy facilities for the Millionaire Players? Build a lovely little place right beside the Dome...can probably do it for ... what $20-30 Million? All the comforts a player wants, with a quick approach/shuttle to the ice surface.
Problem solved?
No - Gary wants NEW and PRETTY, the owners want MORE money, the players want NICE, the fans....meh, who cares about us?
Grumpy today (can you tell?).

This still needs to pass through does it not? Would be something if it was voted down wonder what the idiots who voted UCP because of this deal will say?

It could happen, but it would be suicide for the UCP. A lot of tight races in Calgary, some won and some lost. Killing the arena deal would probably sewer their support in the next election. Even the rural MLAs have to realize that.

I suspect if we hear the arena deal goes through we hear about a new ownership group emerging. Orange Julius rumour: local group headed by Mike Rose were waiting to see if the deal goes through and Murray is getting out.

I’ve been to other arenas and sporting events and the extra bathrooms and concessions and concourses are an enormous difference. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is 62,000 people, and it’s entirely a better experience than the Saddledome because it’s properly designed for the number of patrons. Other NHL arenas are better because there are those design initiatives as well as adequate facilities overall.
