Perhaps the Alberta/Quebec dynamic is impacted by the $5-10B we send them every year? Is there anything more french than displaying no more than mild contempt for the people you have looted?

I would have thought most conservatives who voted UCP this time held their nose while doing so, not beat their chest proudly on the internet that they voted for them.

It vexes me.

Spoiler!

I would have loved to have voted for a moderate conservative party with sound fiscal policy and common sense social policy. That just doesn't exist here anymore.
Anyone that I know of who voted UCP did so holding their nose, and they ain't bragging about it. Of course, they all seem pretty darn misinformed about actual NDP governing history or their present policies. And they all seem to think Smith actually won't harm their own industries despite what the COC and other business groups have said.

We’ll likely be sending them more after we lower our tax rates.

I don't think so. No one ever even talks about that. They prefer "freedom" and "no communism".

If they do complain about equalization they never mention provinces who get a lot more per capita, nor do they complain about Kenney's formula.

EDIT: and "we" don't send Quebec anything if "we" is Alberta.

Danielle should just stop writing cheques to Quebec then. Why is the government of Alberta sending a 10 Billion cheque to Quebec every year?

"Alberta" doesn't send money to Quebec.

But "Albertans" certainly do, via the fed's treasury.

I suppose there's some tips in here people can follow in hopes of keeping things more civil.

It is possible to be pragmatic when it comes to a voting decision.

All politicians are kind of the worst, just pick the ones that you think will do the best job for you locally and represent your communities needs and values, regardless of their party, is my mindset.

Everything else is just message board/social media outrage and fodder!
You can claim to be liberal/centrist/lefties but you voted for a party that disagrees with you. Very strongly I might add.

And you did it because money.

Money > social equality.

I think I learned this correctly over the years in Alberta, but it looks like the oil market is reacting to the UCP government’s re-election, WTI is down over 4% today. I am pretty sure I was always taught that Canadian governments, both provincial and federal, can affect the price of oil.
