Whinging about everyone being meanies then getting into the muck and acting like a toddler isn't a particular look I would want for myself. It's not making the community any better.

There are a few people that need to temper their emotions and do a little reset, but pushing all your chips in to actively troll the community is a weird angle.

Bottom line is because the UCP won a select few CP members are throwing a giant hissy fit.

Last few days I've been doing some crude data analysis. There are 14420 registered members here, of those about 100 are active in political threads, about half that very active. These members routinely insult and dismiss anyone that doesn't fit into their belief system. They are the most intolerant members on CP by far.

Put another way a very small percentage of members ruin it for everyone. It's no surprise we get so few new members, and people that do register tend to not post much or never post.

I think they’ve all left because of the verbal diarrhea being thrown their way. This is also the NDP fan forum so probably no motivation to come in here and watch the circle jerk.

I am just glad there are many UCP supporters on the board now, and I look forward to have them sticking around for the next four years to provide thoughtful insights into what the UCP is doing and how they are making Alberta great again. I am not sure where they were for the past four years but I am sure they just never noticed that there was a little thread dedicated to the Alberta Politics and Government. It hardly ever got bumped.

If you want to support the UCP because it's not "in cahoots" with Trudeau (which may be overblown, specifically to trigger the anti-trudeau voting base) or whatever, that's fine. But personally I wouldn't want to be associated with the party that houses and caters to the crazies whose worldviews align with the likes Theo fleury (trumpian, freedumb fighting, anti-trans, etc), and more so if i consider myself not a bigot and don't want to be mistakenly lumped with them.

You could be a well rounded person that doesnt subscribe to hatred, but just remember the swamp monsters you're inadvertently siding with in the process by casting your vote that way.

I just hope you did your research and had good personal reasons you're comfortable with for voting that way, and it wasn't just because of "can't side with the left" thinking (falling victim to the UCP's attempt to rally Albertans through playing up Notley=Trudeau while overlooking their shortcoming in the last few years).

I know some who voted that way because it benefits their industry best. And that's fine. I may not agree with it, but that's perfectly OK.

If this is an 'NDP fan forum' then why are you here? I'm assuming it's because you're still looking for that Trudeau quote, which you've embarrassed yourself on so far.

It 1:30 on a Tuesday. They are busy working instead of spending the entire day on a message board calling anyone who voted the opposite of them a racist and bigot

I’d argue there used to be an even more intolerant group but for the most part they’re not willing to come out and play anymore for some reason.

Yeah, dieHARDflameZ isn't working. He's busy finding that Trudeau quote that doesn't exist.

I only have one thing to contribute and it is totally anecdotal. I once had lunch with the CEO of Calgary oil company who grew up in Ontario in wealthy social circles. He told a story of going to dinners with the Trudeaus and he remembered vividly that Pierre Trudeau would lambaste Westerners and talk about how much he hated Alberta in private conversation.

This of course is no reflection on Justin Trudeau as he is his own man and it would be unfair to draw any direct conclusions from that. It is however, also plausible that he is following in his father's footsteps and many of his formative years and ideas about Canada came from his family.

It IS possible to be a centrist/leftie and vote UCP. I did it. I am pretty liberal in my views and lifestyle/relationships.

I just think the UCP is better economically for our Province and my Municipality. Our MLA, who lives in my actual constituency, is a better representative than the NDP option.

It is possible to be pragmatic when it comes to a voting decision.

All politicians are kind of the worst, just pick the ones that you think will do the best job for you locally and represent your communities needs and values, regardless of their party, is my mindset.

Everything else is just message board/social media outrage and fodder!

As an actual NDP fan, I find this "fan forum" point is hilarious. The vast majority of people here voted NDP while holding their nose.

This really has nothing to do with the NDP, and everything to do with a fear and loathing of the UCP. The NDP just happened to be the other viable party on the ballot. I have no doubt a big chunk of NDP support goes away with a right wing option that is not as crazy as the UCP existed.

I voted NDP, and still think this thread has been cringe.

Are you suggesting the CP political forums are nothing close to being representative of the broader CP membership, or of Calgarians? And that the insults and dog-piling might be the reason why only a tiny fraction of members participate in them?

Spoiler!

Possibly, and wouldn't surprise me either. But your story is anecdotal, and you mentioned it as much. I'm just interested in seeing the actual quote where Trudeau says he hates Alberta. Anytime now, I'm sure dieHARDflameZ will share it.

.

I agree with everything you said. Especially the last line. I would go a step further and say we need more transparency as to why some people vote the way they do. Some reasons might be ok, but most are not and we need to shed light on that. Otherwise, how do we educate people so they make better voting decisions?
People should only be taking certain issues into account when voting or else we get rampant bigotry. Those issues are obvious - the ones not rooted in bigotry, transphobia, climate denial, and anti-vax rhetoric.
