Is that what they're protesting? It's hard to tell what these mouth breathers are rabbling about these days.

I think we continue to push our MLAs on this issue. Continue to highlight the gap in support for these members of our society and become a squeaky wheel about it.
That's what we are doing with our Foundation locally, that provides low income housing and assisted living for seniors, low income families and people with disabilities.
Being able to have a dialogue with these MLAs, even if they aren't in your party of choice, is the best path forward now.

Try being a visible minority in rural AB (I have and it's zero fun having people tell your mom you can't possibly be her kid). Or First Nations. Or gay. The experience is quite different.
And community volunteerism is great, but also inconsistent and unreliable. You can't rely on a fundraiser when you are out of work, or sick.

It didn't use to be this way. The NDP started as a farmer's party. Tommy Douglas came from the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation, elected in Weyburn Saskatchewan. A party driven by farmers from Saskatchewan. This same group that got us socialized healthcare - a pinnacle of Canadian society- has been pivoted into somehow disliking it.

I have an odd feeling that the UCP will constantly be worried that they may not actually make it to the end of the 4 years as the majority. Strangely enough, I do think that there could be a constant threat of floor crossing from UCP MLAs if they become disgruntled with Smith or the UCP would remove Smith as leader to avoid floor crossings. IMO NDP would have no such concern with Notley.
I wonder if this could keep Smith in line. I also wonder if it could create opportunities for NDP and UCP to work together almost as if we had elected a minority government. The next 4 years are going to be wild from a political standpoint IMO.

There are good people who live in rural areas. But the education and the diversity that comes with living in a modern society isn't there. It is great that you have had positive experiences but rural Alberta has proven itself to ha e massive issues with anti intellectual attitudes that really became evident during COVID restrictions and the backlash. They can't recruit or maintain even the semblance of a healthcare system and have actively pushed healthcare workers away through hostility. The educational achievement and progressive views just don't exist.
It is great that you know people who made a golf course and teach kids to raise cattle but that doesn't mean I want those people dictating to the province how everything should be run and right now that is what it feels like.
I'm sure they feel the same way but when the difference is that the NDP puts policies in place that help promote safety in the farms it just feels different.

What have you seen over the last 4 years to lead you to believe that any UCP MLA has enough of a spine to do that?

I tried that over the last 4 years. It got me no where(still on a 3 year wait list for a specialist!). Fortunately his support of an unqualified liar lost him his job.

Douglas started the Health Care movement. But it wasn't until it was accepted by a conservative party that it got done.
Alberta is also just a different animal than even other western provinces. It's been a conservative monolith since they were elected over an even more right wing party when I was a kid. Notley is the only leader to eke out a single win.

And this hasn't happened in the city? Racism and Homophobia are exclusive to rural Alberta? Did not know that.

The Centre needs to figure a way to next time appeal to them to turn out and cast their ballot against the UCP.

This is exactly the same problem the CPC has and why Trudeau has won election after election. People in the middle feel lost with no one to represent them.

They think everyone outside of the Urban areas are uneducated hicks.
There's no conversation to be had when they've already decided your opinion and experiences are not worth as much as their own.
