I'm curious as to how the UCP will begin to retain Canadian-trained doctors, especially ones trained right here in this province. This will be a real challenge, as they have a deplorable reputation amongst the healthcare circles (yet they'll tell you in the public that healthcare is improving - it's not).

My takeaway: despite the tirefire of the UCP (who are objectively not conservatives), if you told me 20 years ago the NDP would have gained this much ground and given Albertans a viable voting option, I would've thought you were smoking crack.
Lots of progress was made this election.

They dont have to wait for hours on end in the hospital with patients and can get back to the core of their duties and respond to calls where they are needed. Did it fix the system, no, not by a long shot. But their presence in waiting rooms was doing very little on that end either.
Also, not all healthcare see the NDP as the only option for fixing the system, I know many nurses who voted UCP. Issues are not black and white like we all believe they are sometimes.

Voting for the UCP came down to one of two things, whether those voters want to admit it or not. Either you are ignorant to Smith and her actions and words, or you are fully aware of them, and voted to endorse those actions. That mean you have given permission for the premier to break the rule of law if she feels like it. You don't get to vote for the UCP and say "well, I don't support her actions, I like my MLA" because that's exactly what you have done. You've authorized her to break laws.
So pick one of those, ignorance, or no ####s given. Any other thought in your head is just lying to yourself.

Challenge it then. You don't believe 50% of Ontario woke up thinking we weren't a group of unwashed bigots this morning? Call your friends and find out.

A lady who compared Trans people to literal #### won her riding. If you live in that riding and voted for her, you are a bigot.

I do find it interesting how the people defending this as some sort of Danielle Smith win have only "talked too" paramedics, but the people in this thread that actually are paramedics have been saying the opposite

They complain about name calling while voting in the kind of people (and the actual people) who call kids “pieces of ####” and call people they don’t agree with “nazis.”
UCP voters have fewer legs to stand on than a dinghy.

Why do you even care? You seem to be very caught up in what other people you don't know, and will never know, think of you, a person they don't know.
Get over yourself.

I don’t know about that. I interact with a lot of people from across the country and I highly doubt any of them will consider me to be a bigot because half of my province voted for a less than ideal party.
I know a lot of people are frustrated with the results but as someone who will likely be negatively impacted by what this government does I still don’t think perpetuating the us vs them mentality is going to be helpful right now.

I think a lot of people need to look themselves in the mirror this morning for how vitriolic they've acted towards UCP supporters in recent weeks.
In this thread alone UCP voters have been called stupid, bigots and racists numerous times, compared to Orcs from LOTR for supporting freedom of choice when it comes to personal medical decisions, and even declared the entire conservative ideology as neo-fascists on post #90 with a bunch of likes from the usual suspects.
Its ugly, elitist, and incredibly intolerant behavior that probably contributed to the loss by not being able to swing more people on the fence to vote for the NDP.
You'll never win "hearts and minds" by berating people as stupid, bigoted morons for having differences of opinion from you.

The problem is we were already all viewed that way by most outside of Alberta. That’s part of the problem. It just fuels the us vs them sentiment. I published a national magazine for 30 years, and the anti-Alberta bigotry I ran into was shocking and depressing. I understand why some Albertans feel like their back is up against a wall. I don’t support that sentiment, but I understand it. Only half of the problem lies within our borders. The other half is fueled by federal politics that has used Alberta as a political football, and a national media that has helped feed this narrative.

No, you're right, they won't think *you* are directly, if they know you. But they will think *Albertans* are, and that will disadvantage you as an Albertan with people you haven't yet met.

At best, you’re “not” a bigot but find bigotry so unimportant that you’re willing to vote in bigots regardless of that character trait.
Not sure that’s something to pat yourself on the back about.
