Not really, it was a terrible election. Two undesirable parties lobbying constant attacks at each other.

That was a huge surprise given how important this election was. Have to wonder if a section of voters don't care to take an interest in the issues.

Well, no, they aren’t. The Star maybe. But the Globe isn’t - they’ve generally endorsed the Conservatives almost every election through 2015 and didn’t make one last time.

And you are ignoring all of Post Media which owns every other major newspaper in the country.

Let's nevermind the BS and just admit that the NDP has a selling and policy problem that go hand in hand. They need to play the game cleaner, better, smarter and with more fire power where it matters, like in rural Alberta. Alberta, like it or not is a more conservative province than other places in Canada. We have the national media in some ways stunned at what has happened but how many people who were born and raised here really surprised?

I don't align politically with Notley a lot but she is a good leader and she is good for Alberta as a strong, official opposition. Changing the name of the NDP party in the hopes of a better result is the same thing as Calgary Flames fan's wanting to change the name and expecting a Championship. It's nonsense.

You need smarter, more powerful players, making smarter and more effective moves. Sometimes there is something to be said about a more ground and pound approach.

Well I'm expecting a tweet - it would be par for the course for Mr. Wolf.

That’s the catch 22 of it all. He would have needed a party with a seat or two and 10% of the vote like the Greg Clarke AP was. I agree that would be a better fit but then there would just be centrist and left vote splitting which you couldn’t win while doing. If you look at the support this election a lot of it was consolidating the AP support under the NDP.

We are in a two party system now so other than the Federal liberals post Trudeau I don’t see other options if he wants to get back into politics.

It’s a stupid idea.

But as I said before Bill 1 for the NDP was the legislation to raise the Alberta tax rate from 10-15% which was a terrible mistake.

Because they can’t help themselves they promised a fairly significant increase in corporate tax rates, which according to pundits tonight was another huge blunder.

Rachel could have easily won this election by moving slightly to the right, no new taxes and measures to attract outside investment.

As a staunch conservative she would have even got my vote.

But on her fiscal policy there was no chance I was switching sides.

The NDP does not get a lot of money in private donations due to where they fall on the political spectrum. Most of the wealthier donors and organizations tend to be more right-wing.

I can't remember if unions are banned from donating to political parties in Alberta but, even if they aren't, unions don't have a particularly strong presence in Alberta. As such, the provincial NDP are always going to be heavily reliant on the federal party for funding.

Could they gain a percentage point or two from rebranding? Maybe, but it would come at the cost of being able to run a competitive campaign.
They could even lose!

Endorsements isn't how these things should be judged but rather the nature of the ongoing coverage.

Stanfield ran and lost three in a row.

Frankly, the recent pattern of leaders resigning even if they lose one is not a good one because it makes winning more important than leading and developing policy and therefore they spend much more time electioneering.

I think reality is "left leaning" considering a large portion of the rights platform is based on a magical man in the sky and his magic book
