I had just turned on CBC and it sounded like the host there just said that Elections Alberta might be hand counting the advanced vote now. I'm not sure if he was joking or if he was actually serious.

They’re currently doing that and it does not seem to be speeding things up, at least not at a rate where someone could say any benefit was significantly greater than had they opted to add more of those services under in the public system.

Elections Alberta really dropping the ball. 68 minutes in and virtually zero votes counted.

Well, clearly they are not able to immediately report the advance polls; if they could we would have 750,000 total votes counted by now instead of about 20,000.

Perhaps not as close as some people would like but in the end, the good thing will be that there will be a strong opposition in Alberta one way or another? Everybody holding everybody to account?

Exactly. Private efficiency in government service is a complete myth.

At best they only externalize costs for the public to pickup in another way. It’s a shell game & a complete con.

In a two party legislature?

Wouldn't the electronic record just be sent out to the media and than reported?

Seems to be taking a long time considering the votes are being counted quickly, electronically.
