Canada was prevented from sending their best players for many, many years, and only now, with more Europeans playing in the playoffs, is it at least a bit more fair.

Was the worst player on this iteration of Team Canada and was the worst player on the Flames all year long. But yeah, let's keep him around for the feels.

You didn't say we shouldn't keep him. You said you hope he retires. Wide gap between those two things.

Then it wasn't fair to Canada in those years either, just like it's not fair to Russia now.
"Let everyone have a fair chance to win" shouldn't be at all controversial.

He needs to retire. He's a shell of his former self. He brings nothing of value to the game on the ice. His greatest skill, his ability to intimidate, is done. That's been evident for a couple seasons now. There is nothing he can do to help a team on the ice anymore. He's a hole in any lineup. If you want him around, make him a development coach or give him a position like they did with Big Ern. But his playing days are done.

You should call him and tell him what he has to do since it's up to you.

It's a time and place thing Lanny. Do you really think the thread where people are happy for the guy celebrating a gold medal is another place where you have to basically say his career is over? You could pick any number of other threads, or just be comfortable knowing that most people already know his career is winding down.
Time and place.

If he wants to.
If a team wants him.
If he wants to keep playing but there isn't an opportunity, that's too bad. No player wants to be forced into retirement and it not be their decision.

The otehr thing is - look at his fam. Do you think his wife and/or kids never look at the internet? Never search his name? Are never led to CP. I think about that all the time when I post something about a player.

Here's what I said.
"Winning is fun. I hope Lucic goes out with this gold medal as his farewell to the game. Great guy, just not a very good hockey player anymore."
Lucic is a great guy. I hope the player goes out while on top. There is nothing more pathetic than watching a guy try and milk a couple more years out of the game when they clearly cannot get it done. The smart thing is to recognize when that time is as a player. This is a high point in a season of low points. Use that high point and go out on your terms, not be forced into retirement by a string of PTOs. Lucic can now go out with some success or he can try and go out full Tom Brady. I'd like to see him retire on top and with some grace.
Time and place.

He seems to be active online, he's blocked a bunch of those losers that are part of Flames Nation after they attacked him all season long.

Pretty sure they all post here too and you can tell which ones they might be with their insistence to trash Looch when it's not even needed

You're completely missing the point.
Is this the time to state the guy's career is over and that he needs to step away? In a gold medal winning discussion after a tough hockey season?
That's the time and place thing that seemed to go right over your head.
Nobody is debating he's lost a step. Most would prefer they don't bring him back and go with younger bottom six forwards. But you and you alone are showing him the door from all NHL employment the day after he won a medal with his country.
