Kadri doesn’t have value, Lindholm does. The answer is easy on who you keep and who you trade.

Yeah, only Treliving was stupid enough to give him that long contract at his age.
Conroy would have to pay someone to take Kadri, especially after he quit on the team.

The only thing noteworthy about this comment is how little you actually know or are willing to acknowledge.

I think a few of the New York area teams are in desperation mode right now. New York has underformed year after year. Islanders seem to have an identity if wanting hard workers but lack skill or speed, and may need a shake up. New Jersey is on the brink of breaking out. Carolina may want a better body in there to take them over the top. There are deals to be made for sure. Just gotta gauge who’s the most desperate and suck them dry.

To be completely fair I am sure other General Managers offered very similar deals.

I think the contract that is still in Lou's drawer was worth more.
I think Kadris intentions of coming here was to win in Canada but everything went off the rails last year.
No doubt he had a bad attitude towards the end and gave up on plays during games.
It's not the points with Kadri it was all the intangibles the compete grit nasty play and being a big game player that was missing. I wonder if the team asked him to be a different player.

Paying to shed Kadri is what has value.
But maybe he actually rebounds and raises his stock enough to get someone to look.

Agreed.
The sooner an objective valuation is made and aging players are moved, the sooner the team can get back to being competitive WITH upside like they were a few years ago.

What thinks you can get Lindholm for less? Oh right, your neverending negative take.

Hopefully Connie was closely involved in the Tkachuk sign & trade, because Lindholm might have to be the same thing in order to secure a top pick in return.

Because his value is not the #3 pick or Kent Johnson. That isn't negativity that is reality and I am far from the only one who has said this in the thread but I don't see you crying about those posts.

Man, you must have been on such a high until the Oilers got bounced again. Islanders had a contract that at least matched and some crappier teams on paper offered more.

Don't sell yourself short you definitely know more than fans like TOFan. At the very least you don't have the super homer glasses on like he does so that alone makes you more knowledgeable.

Crossing fingers Conroy can move some pieces at the draft.

Yeah, the sustainable formula is to have a pipeline of drafted players pushing for spots in as many positions as possible, lots of ELC and bridge contracts and being ruthless with players that want to test free agency or who won’t sign team friendly contracts. Make hockey trades when there are log jams in certain positions, to address organizational needs.
I hope that’s the model Conroy adopts, especially knowing that the ownership won’t allow a complete rebuild to allow the Flames to draft a superstar. I don’t really think he has much of a choice with our cap situation.

It is absolutely pointless to move Kadri after the stretch drive he had. They invested in him. He's shown he can be better. For a period at the start of the year, he was the Flames' best player — period.
I'm confident he'll rebound under a strong communicator at the head coach position. He's a proud guy and a competitor. The way people are talking about him, you'd think he's some sort of diva. He's clearly not.

The age of the respective players makes a huge difference.
Having to sign Lindholm to an 8-year deal while likely palatable won’t be considered ideal.
But it’s the cost of signing UFA’s or UFA’s to be.
