Kyle Dubas won't return as Leafs GM
Treliving the favourite for the Toronto GM job
https://twitter.com/andystrickland/s...aCaHvidvlJqabA
Friedman mentioned Leafs hadn’t talked to Treliving yet

If there is one thing Brad is good at, it’s losing star American players !

I am glad to have moved on from Tre and think Conroy will be a better long-term fit as Flames GM. But, good christ, for the sake of our collective nerves Conroy had better not make his first trade with the Leafs if it's his former mentor in the GM chair.

I think when you have Auston Matthews it's a much easier job than when you try to build around Sean Monahan so I wouldn't be surprised if he saw success there. Wouldn't mean he'd deserve much credit. It would be like how Tre got credit for the 2015 Flames, when really that was Feaster's roster plus Jonas Hiller and Deryk Engelland

Yeah, I do wonder if Dubas re-signed during the season if we would have seen Treliving do the same. It was rumoured that he had his eye on the Toronto situation all season long.

Watch Treliving overseeing Matthews leaving for nothing and trade Marner and Nylander for a bunch of older overpaid guys

This is the most likely scenario. I think the flames are finally on a better path.

We'll take their 1st rounder too. Treliving doesn't like those things anyway.

Daily faceoff reporting that NHLPA is reviewing Dubas' relationship with his agent because his agent works for the same agency that represents Auston Matthews

Button's weird answer on That's Hockey last night, when asked about whether BT would be a fit in TOR, if I interpreted it right was rather telling.
It seemed he was suggesting that BT's 'just get in' mantra would not be enough to satisfy a market that wants a Cup. If you couldn't meet the more modest expectations in CGY how could you in TOR?
The way Gino phrased the question suggested that Buttons and BT are friends, so Craig's answer was weird.

I brought the name up a few weeks ago as a potential GM I would like to see get a chance to interview in Calgary in Mike Gillis. Friedman is reporting he is in the running for the Toronto GM role. Always thought he was a great GM and a great manager of players.

I'm pretty sure the 'just get in' mantra is Edwards mandate to all Flames management and not Treliving's. If you noticed Conroy never used the word "rebuild" in any of his interviews after getting the GM gig and Bean kind of confirmed weeks ago the word is not to be used in the building. Besides it not really relevant in Toronto as their team could sleepwalk through the regular season and make the playoffs. They need some tweaks to get them over the top in the playoffs and often those are the most difficult moves to get right as Sam Bennett's don't grow on trees but I imagine Treliving knows that now.

He's got to have one of the worst draft records of all time
He landed one impact NHL player with 37 draft picks and that was Bo Horvat at #9. Five of six first rounders were complete busts (Hodgson, Schroeder, Shinkaruk, Gaunce, and Jensen)
When Ben Hutton is your second best pick over six draft classes you know you failed miserably.
In saying that his ability to steer clear of free agency and not overpay when he did was definitely shrewd.

Is Marnier any good? Is he better than Marner or the Wish version of him?
