Then what have our AGM's done in the last 10 years? Serious question.

I can’t imagine any of us would have a more useful answer to this than Don Maloney.

Yeah he should have hogtied Gaudreau and forced him to sign on the dotted line, any experienced GM would have known to do that, a top player gunning to be a free agent to offer their services to the highest bidder for a retirement contract has literally never ever happened in the NHL before. Big swing and a miss there.

I always felt Calgary was treating Tkachuk in a similar way Montreal treated Subban. Basically too many traditionalists that view personality and charisma as some sort of blight to team chemistry. Stop celebrating with Price after wins. Stop being so entertaining in interviews. Just do your job or else.
Calgary knew they had a star in Tkachuk, but because he was such a character they couldn't help but attempt to take him down a peg. Cue the malicious compliance of 21/22 to give them a sample of what they were about to lose.
Big difference there was Montreal opted to sign him to the big contract eventually that turned into a wash in hindsight with the Weber trade.
Even when Huberdeau rebounds back to the 80+ points he's expected to, it's clear Florida won the trade. Tkachuk is younger, is actually being paid less, and will likely be about as good as he is now for a few more seasons. But it certainly won't be as drastic of a difference as it was this past season.

This isn't a 92 pioint team. This is a team that won the President's trophy the year before and then just got smoked by injuries for 2 solid months from Nov-Dec.

Matthew Tkachuk has had such a good life.
He's lucky, but he has also earned it.

Tkachuk direct line to Gretz, casually golfing with him.
Probably didn't happen while he was a flame lol... location helps with beauty courses around.

I have always held the opinion that the bolded is one of the reasons for the 2004 Flames team did not go on to do better when they dropped Conroy, Nieminem, and Commodore...all fan favorites.
Bennett, Tkachuk and Gaudreau fall into the same category. and we all know what their loss has meant to the Flames. I think it was Sutter who had a dislike for players whose unique character stood out in the eyes and hearts of fans.

Page 7 and people still think he would've stayed in Calgary? He wanted to be in the U.S and particularly Florida.
Move on guys.

You are right it was probably the wrong thread but I was responding to a post that was also in the wrong thread about the Panthers "not being a 92 point team"
I mean, they are

Yeah, I’m not sure how many more star players will have to move on or refuse trades here for people to acknowledge that small-market Canadian teams are at a major disadvantage.
Being the GM of a Canadian NHL team is doing the job in hard mode. Duhatschek made a point of bringing it up at the Conroy presser.
I’m happy for Tkachuk. Nice to see someone who genuinely loves playing hockey and being a professional athlete - and understands that they’re in the entertainment business - become the face of the NHL. It’s great for the game.

Treliving had an opportunity to sign Tkachuk long term, didn't.
We can trot out the ol woe is me Canadian angle but if Brad wouldn't believed in the player more and bought into him instead of overpaying a bottom line player (again) he'd be here. Botton line. This is a failure of Brad Treliving.
