Tanguay may have a great hockey brain, but based on previous interviews with him, he lacks the charisma required to be a head coach (see GG)

I'd like his expertise for the PP and offence. Feels like he could help this team.
But I don't think he would come here to be assistant.

I don't know. He isn't the coach to get Huberdeau to play a more straightforward game and shoot more.

I get the same feeling watching Love to be honest. He doesn't exude charisma. I am not sure how important that is in the big picture, but from footage I have seen, he seems pretty quiet and laid back.

Unlike Bednar, who just oozes charisma?

As with players, the coaches you see in front of the microphone aren't always what you get behind closed doors.

Yah, on my list of things I want in a good NHL head coach, charisma would be near the bottom. Who cares how charismatic they are in front of the camera as long as they are effective in communicating with the players and other coaching staff.

Yeah, weird to want charisma in a head coach. What I look for is leadership, I hate this word but kind of an ‘alpha’ quality - a coach that doesn’t get laughed at when he throws a stick into the bleachers. Sutter has it, Trotz, Bednar, Sullivan, etc.

Last year they were 8th overall in GF. This year they were 4th. I get that he has a great goalie, and I haven't watched any games to see how defensive they are, but on the surface I am not seeing a coach that doesn't know offense.

It's a part of the leadership equation that matters though as it plays into gaining the respect of players. People tend to buy into charismatic leaders over the cold and analytical types. You don't want a coach that has to manufacture it such as Gulutzan. When he threw a stick in the stands players laughed which was all you need to know about how his tenure went. We also heard several stories about players not respecting Playfair from day one so he never had a chance.

The year they were 8th they played fewer games than many teams that finished ahead of him. The fact is, if we care about facts, the Wranglers outscored any other team in the span of the last 2 years. Dissentowner is so obsessed with discrediting Darryl's systems that he ignores when it works and ignores the offensive successes it can achieve.

I guess what VilleN is talking about above is what I'm getting at too. I want a good leader that people listen to, so in a way, I do agree that charisma is part of that. But even if they're not the most charismatic, as long as guys respect and listen to them, that's what's important.

Has anyone spoken to Sutter following his dismissal? Curious to hear what his take is re: the decision.

I never said his systems don't work, I said his system doesn't work with this roster. His system doesn't produce any offensive successes, in his entire coaching career only one line flourished offensively under Darryl Sutter and that is because they chose to play the way they wanted and coach be damned. Every team he has touched with the exception of that one line their offensive numbers have cratered. The numbers don't lie.

4 million dollars for the next two years to spend on the ranch. Must just be laughing as that is his first love anyway. For his hockey fix he can just go into his hockey room and stare at his Stanley Cup rings etc. I wouldn't feel too bad for the guy I'm sure he ain't all that broke up about it. He has been around a long time and gone through it all. Like water off a bull's backside.

He is getting paid hansomly. I would imagine he is encouraged not to be involved discussing much Flames related.

I read on here somewhere that when they notified Sutter, he took it really well and agreed that it was probably about time. I can't recall where that was reported though.
